Graduate Electronics Engineer.
Graduate, Auckland - 22 Jul 2024
I am currently shadowing the assistant project manager and project manager on the HMAS TOOWOOMBA SRA13 project. I have been assigned with filling out admin cancellation requests and task deferral requests, submitting the documents onto WAMA SharePoint and tracking the progress on SharePoint. Communication with WAMA SPO is required when clarification is needed on the admin cancellations and task deferral requests. The assistant PM and I have a separate Task tracker spreadsheet, in which we update and document the TPCC's, ACR's, TDR's and Contingency record. I am tracking and updating the document daily. I have also been assigned with taking down meeting minutes at our weekly IPT meetings. Alongside working on the TOOW project, I am also still currently facilitating the ship staff Babcock inductions for HMAS Stuart IMAV11 and assisting the Project administration when help is needed.

Effectively nothing. Optimistically, I might say "at the moment," but I have no experience to tell me I will have actual responsibilities any time soon.

As a Graduate I have plenty of support where I require it, but also the freedom to make my own decisions. The tasks I work on are dependent on what is required for my project, and vary in nature.

I'm lucky in my role that I'm given a lot of autonomy to pursue projects in a manner i think is best. Whether this is researching on topics to improve my understanding so I can convey my findings or developing technical papers. This is refreshing when compared to just being given a task/deadline to just repeat the same processes over and over again to the point of stagnation.

My role as a graduate procurement and supply chain graduate is everchanging. That is because the teams I have worked in within the unit I am apart of have all assigned me different work. In general, my day-to-day responsibilities include assisting with warehousing operations as required, completing warehousing processes like receipting, and completing assigned work. At present, I am working on a guide for workers in one warehousing team and have completed other work like updating documentation or inventory locations.

As mentioned, I'm in a functional role which means I don't do any technical engineering. I have been dealing with digital SharePoint tools, writing policies, and assisting with internal procedures. While this is important work to an extent, it isn't what I wanted to do, and I had no say in the matter.

I do enjoy my responsibilities, however there are other areas that id like to get more experience in.
