How flexible is your company when it comes to hours?
Depending on how busy the team is there is flexibility.
Graduate, Melbourne - 18 Sep 2024
My work hours have been really manageable. I usually finish around 6pm. If I have to stay past 6pm, it is usually pretty rare. People also check in about my work hours to make sure I am okay.

The teams I have been in are very flexible with hours, and there is an understanding that you can work to a schedule that works best for you. There is also a genuine option and flexibility to work from home on the days you prefer to suit your workload.

I have very good work hours on average. Occasionally, I will have to work additional hours when we have tight client deadlines, however, on the whole our team is well resourced, and the workload is equally shared with my colleagues. I have found the Firm to be very understanding and flexible when it comes to hours where there are clashing personal commitments. Ultimately, we are in an industry which sometimes requires long hours but I have not found these to be unreasonable.

My hours are generally very good, except during busy periods where I may have to work later. The firm is very flexible with working arrangements, with opportunities to work from home and tailor working arrangements.

Our team has quite a flexible WFH policy. We have an aspirational target of 3 days per week (Monday-Wednesday).

Company is very flexible when it comes to how you meet daily targets, and work can be continued at home. Certain teams will have standards when it comes to expected attendance in the office but these are mostly reasonable.

Very flexible! My team tries to be in the office on the same days and are very flexible about working from home.

The approach tends to be more team-specific when it comes to hours. Generally, you have the option to work from home at times during the week but it can be dependent on the kind of work you are doing and whether it is more appropriate to be in the office.

The firm is quite flexible about work hours - so long as the work is done within the deadline, partners don't mind how you balance your personal life and work. During busy times where transactions are closing or during trials, the hours are less flexible, but that is to be expected.

Global clients and time zone differences can sometimes mean you are working longer or unusual hours. The more you take on, the more you do.
Graduate, Sydney - 03 Sep 2024
As a guide, my team has certain 'work from the office' days Mon-Wed, but it varies per team. If we have appointments, need to work from home, or need to adjust our hours to suit our needs for that day, as long as we communicate that to the team, it is fine. Considering I am a graduate, I am pleased with how my partners have managed my workload and ensure I go home on time when it isn't necessary to stay late.

You can work from home - it is a discussion you can have with your partners.
Junior Associate, Sydney - 03 Sep 2024
Flexibility of hours is really dependent on what team you are in and what kind of law you work in. Some areas are more prone to late nights due to international deals or fast turn arounds. In my current team, hours are really determined by how much work we have on. When it is less busy, it is normal to leave around 5pm.
Graduate, Sydney - 03 Sep 2024
My work hours so far have been reasonable. On average, I will start at around 8.30am and leave the office by around 6.30pm. It is rare that I will have to work over the weekend.
Graduate, Melbourne - 03 Sep 2024
The hours have been very reasonable. Occasionally, a few days in a row may be on the longer side, but likewise you will also have periods where you're finishing on time. I have also noticed that the more senior you get, the more control you have over your workflow.
Graduate, Sydney - 03 Sep 2024
My hours have been generally pretty consistent, ranging from 8:30am-6pm usually. There is flexibility in terms of working from the office or at home, rearranging your working hours for appointments, and then more formal flexibility in terms of working part time / splitting your hours across multiple days.

Flexible. Generally I can come in at 9:00 am and leave at 5:30-6:00 pm unless I have something urgent/pressing to finish

Hours vary a lot depending on your workflow. Flexibility to start/finish based on your schedule and work from home a reasonable amount.
