Look up standard interview questions and write practice answers to them. Look up at least some basic things about the oil and gas industry and a few things about the company specifically. Practice answering the interview questions (ideally to another person) to get comfortable in that environment. If you have an assessment center component (I didn't, but I think they do now), focus on helping the people around you do well as well as yourself - it will be noticed and it will be something they're looking for. If not, highlight times when you've helped other people succeed as well as times when you've succeeded.

Don't be deterred if you don't have the highest grades - as long as you are above the threshold to apply your grades will not be considered anywhere near as much as how you speak and how personable you are. Remember as an intern / grad you are NOT expected to be a technical wiz, all anyone wants is someone who is easy to get on with, eager to learn and doesn't come with a big ego.

Gain experience from extra curricular activities (not necessarily work) so you have lots of examples to draw from in your cover letter and interview. Time and practice your interview presentation and try and make it unique. The interviews will have heard lots, so make it memorable!

Put a lot of effort into both your Cover letter and Resume. Include all your experiences, it doesn't have to relate to the work you applied for. Assessors like diversity in your portfolio as it allows them to see that you are seasoned and can think outside the box.
