The diversity is an aspect the Canberra office is getting better at with more junior lawyers from diverse backgrounds being hired

I believe they are extremely committed but I don't want to comment to highly as I myself am not engaged enough in the options the firm gives individuals.

There's definitely a push to be seen as a firm that cares about diversity (eg there are gender, LGBT+ and ethnic minority committees to be a part of, generous maternity/paternity leave policies, Indigenous hiring pathways) but how much that trickles through to hiring decisions, promotion decisions and pay decisions is unclear. Some partners are really onto it and are very supportive of their teams.

Diversity is a strong factor at Clayton Utz. It is embraces all throughout the firm and every person at the firm is welcoming of differing backgrounds and opinions. There are always healthy discussions and evaluations which allow us to move forward.

Seems adequate.

The best in Australia.

Firm holds many events and sessions on the importance of such things.
Lawyer, Melbourne - 15 Jul 2024
I think the firm is pretty good about this in terms of iniatives and committees but diversity is still lacking susbtantially at the senior level.

Firm has good diversity.

I would like to see more diversity in the partnership. I understand that the firm is heavily investing in parental leave, however, given the ageing population, I think carers leave (for elderly parents and relatives) will become just as important as maternity leave.
Graduate, Sydney - 10 Dec 2023
Very good, both the partnership and employees are highly represented by women, ethnic minorities and the LGBTIQA+ communities.
Graduate, Sydney - 10 Nov 2023
Diversity with respect to women is great. Ethnic minorities is not great and this is an area for improvement, namely Indigenous Australians. My understanding is that the LGBTIQA+ initiatives are good.

They are trying which is obvious in the new graduate intakes but at the more senior level it is greatly lacking.

OK - as a young queer person I feel pretty accepted. Can't really speak to cultural diversity but I know there are some issues with it in particular teams.
Graduate, Canberra - 19 Oct 2023
Diversity from a gender perspective is positive, I would say there is a lack of diversity in terms of socio-economic position.
Graduate, Perth - 18 Oct 2023
My impression is that CU is committed to diversity, and has a number of initiatives to back this up. However, I am not privy to issues such as recruitment, retention and promotion etc. so am unsure how the firm stacks up on this front.
Graduate, Brisbane - 17 Oct 2023
There are a lot of initiatives to promote diversity in different areas including LGBTQIA, First Nations and other cultural diversity, gender parity, carers etc. We are consistently updated on policy changes such as 6 months parental leave for any carer (no differentiation between primary and secondary carer), there are training sessions, panel events and momentum committees to discuss issues.

I know we are actively working towards reaching our gender equality targets - need to work on cultural diversity but am starting to see this reflected slowly amongst the juniors coming to the firm, perhaps would be good to add a LGBTIQA+ charity to our community connect partners
Graduate, Melbourne - 17 Oct 2023
I was hired through a diversity program.
