Please tell us about promotion possibilities and fill us in on what it takes to move up the ranks.
In the front line space, promotion is quite clear and common, moving from account manager to analyst to banker. It is common that roles are outsourced (i.e. from other banks) so you do have to compete against that but there are always opportunities to move laterally and up the ladder.

CommBank is a big promotor of internal hiring and is committed to keeping the talent within the organisation. To be promoted it takes someone who is really focused on delivering the key objectives to their role at a high level, and where possible taking initiative to improve thier surroundings. One of the great benefits is if you express you intentions of where you want to take you career, your leaders are willing to help you get there.

After the graduate program, we are promoted to full-time Junior roles. I see many people in my space promoted, after a year or two in their role. It is a great place to move up the ranks with many opportunities to try new areas, roles and be promoted.

Keep working hard, staying true to yourself and surround yourself with the people that will bring you up.

Promotion seems quite doable as long as you care about your work and make an impact, career progression is quite structured and has clear criteria

I am excited about doing a career at CBA. I don't appreciate that remaining as a Graduate for a minimum of 1 year is required (or, highly expected and restricted). I would appreciate the opportunity to roll off once a meaningful discussion is made with TM's, EM's, the Graduate coordinators when an appropriate role has opened up.

I am unsure of the promotion opportunities, but I believe that the company supports progression and development of its staff.
Graduate, Sydney - 12 Sep 2024
There is a clear career path up to a people management roles, this then becomes competitive.

I have learnt a lot and everyday that goes by you will achieve more and more and you will have to ensure you have the evidence to provide for an opportunity for promotion. It would be after a certain time, your manager will observe that you have been excelling in the technical work you have done and raise the opportunity for promotion
Graduate, Sydney - 12 Sep 2024
Participating in impactful projects and being a team player helps open promotion opportunities across the Bank. There is a formal process to apply and submit applications for promotions each year
Graduate, Sydney - 11 Sep 2024
For analytics: Insights Analyst - Senior IA - Insights Manager - Chapter Lead - Chapter Area Lead From analyst to manager role you can be promoted each 12-18 months permitted you have backing from your manager that you are at that skill set. You don't need to wait for a position to open up.

It is quite early for me to say as early roll off has yet to commence and the end of the program is quite far away, but the push for either of those alternatives has been great and I feel very supported.
Graduate, Melbourne - 11 Sep 2024
It takes many extra hours of work and efforts to make connections with people.
Graduate, Sydney - 11 Sep 2024
I am optimistic about opportunities and career progression. The bank is so big and vast. I hear about people being here for decades but change roles ever couple years. Its just daunting knowing that there is so much opportunity, and so there is pressure to pursue these.
Graduate, Sydney - 11 Sep 2024
Given banking often has a reasonable turnover there are often opportunities to move roles. Although it is the nature of the work that we do it is unfortunate at times that many roles can be 'personality based'. For example, my personality is well suited to customer facing, relationship focussed, and management roles. But, in order to move into these roles, I will need experience in other positions that are not well suited to my skill set and personality. This can be demotivating at times as it is hard to find the joy in a role that doesn't suit you that is more of a tick the box role that anything else. Especially if you have to spend a few years in that role.
Accounts Manager (previous Grad), Brisbane - 11 Sep 2024
There is a new promotion process where you can only apply every 12 months. There is a better built up process and understanding of skills required to move up
Associate, Sydney - 11 Sep 2024
Amazing growth. Promotion ops for data analysts and data scientists are pretty good, usually around 1-2 years for each promotion cycle which is quite common to get.
Graduate, Sydney - 11 Sep 2024
It's a bit early in my career to comment too much on this but I can say that so many people I have encountered in the company have been there for 20-30+ years. I think that says a lot about how they look after their people and reward loyalty.

Wouldn't know as still on the grad program
