Culture at Commonwealth Bank

9.0
9.0 rating for Culture, based on 45 reviews
Please describe your company's culture both in the office and after hours. Let us know about the structure and hierarchy, cooperation and teamwork, and socialising amongst colleagues.
There are regular events for staff, bigger for EOFY, Christmas etc, and then regular smaller ones like desserts being brought into the office. The culture in the grad program is excellent as well, a lot of the events are self driven but there are still events every fortnight or more to keep the grad cohort close. Hierarchy is there but everyone is approachable.

There is throughout all business units and departments a common denominator when it comes to culture - everyone wants to see you grow and succeed. Everyone is so willing to impart knowledge and help each other out. People are so genuine and have true care toward their team members. There is a hierarchy and it differs from team to team as to how much this is felt, regionally this is more relaxed and in city areas it is felt a bit more, again nevertheless your leaders are always so willing to help and teach. Teamwork is magnificent, when someone asks for help, everyone pitches in to get the job done. Some areas for improvement is fostering initiative and getting everyone on the same page of initiative. Socialising after hours with the team is significantly higher in metro areas...... Sometimes in Teams the demographic is those with young kids who need to understandably attend to family first.

The culture is great! Work life balance is made to be a priority, and most teams organise bonding events after hours nearby the office. Events also happen during office hours, to celebrate holidays or milestones or welcome new members. Socialising and teamwork is encouraged, with many ceremonies and team meetings organised at a regular cadence. The structure and hierarchy is also clear to understand, so you know exactly who you need to be in contact with and work with to get the job done.

a variety of social events on a weekly, monthly, quarterly and annually basis which helps foster rapport with other colleagues. - The managerial hierarchy is very simple and The energy from leaders feels very grounded and welcoming. -Great cooperation however have to be conscious about workplace politics with other chapters and business stakeholders.

I've been fortunate to be around some gems. No matter the position people hold, they are always willing to help and talk.

Great culture in-office with regular social events both during and after hours amongst graduates.

In Melbourne, really good in office - people are quite nice and org does not feel hierarchical, but instead quite flat. Teamwork is quite good, and people are more than happy to help when you reach out to them. Melb office has run club, bouldering and after work dinner/drinks every week.

Culture is great. Open communication with leadership in our team, with adequate socialising.

The office environment is friendly but can differ by area. My current area is super collaborative across teams as well as management. There are lots of social events with a strong focus on team culture. Being a large company there is a clear hierarchy but my managers and their managers are super friendly, approachable and willing to help/ listen.

Our culture is great we really all strive for a brighter future for all. In hours we are able to knuckle down on work and also have a laugh every week there's a lunch event on where for is provided to us in the kitchen this really blows us to socialise with people a lot of the higher management in the office will attend too and there really nice to talk too. As a grad we have our own socials events too wee have a really strong group of people who I consider not just work colleges but friends from ping pong tournaments to lunches out we have a good time and share our journey together. Outside hours I hang out with multiple groups of people from grad to people in my team and others who I have just met in the office and attend social events which have been orgainised

Culture is great and everyone I have encountered is extremely friendly. Colleagues ensure that they know that you are here to learn and upskill and will not talk you down.

CBA's culture is very nurturing and welcoming. With the structure of Chapter Leads and Product Owners/Domain Leads it is quite clear where work is being sourced from and where to go for help regarding HR or work-specific questions. In my teams, it has been engaging to work with team members and learn from them whilst also providing meaningful work. Each member is aware of another and ensures that work is done to the highest standard.

Again, I've only just joined a new team, but I'd say for the most part CBA has an incredible culture. It varies based on your team and the composition of the team geographically (i.e. having more of a Syd based team tends to have better culture than if otherwise). In terms of the grad program, there is a slightly competitive atmosphere in my cohort, but I can say the culture is good in terms of the amount of time they want to spend together after hours. I know for some people it can be quite overwhelming, or that people feel like they may be judged for not going out with the cohort, but I think that is better than a cohort who do not go out at all.

The in-office and after hours culture is beyond excellent. It's perhaps one of the greatest things about working at CBA. I have made some incredible friends and have picked up hobbies that I otherwise wouldn't have as a result. In terms of cooperation and teamwork during work hours, I have had no issues finding help when I need it.

the culture is good, the people i work with are very friendly and polite, but i find it hard to fit in to different groups once they have been established.

Company culture I believe is really heavily influenced by the management team. Although there are a few star individuals carrying the social scene at times, it's important that management are encouraging of these efforts and get involved with them. It's hard to plan team lunches etc. and then not have managers attend.

There is a great culture where I am surrounded by people that actually care about me as a person.

Amazing. In office there's a great buzzing vibe, and nothing is crazy serious which is great. After hours it's great too, usually everyone clocks in 9 and clocks off 5. After hours is not common. Structure and hierarchy is more flatter with the new pace structure. Socialising is really good and there's many great events and office vibe.

The culture at commbank is incredible. Everyone is so friendly and welcoming, and always happy to give a helping hand. We work hard in the office but there is always time for a chat with a colleague or coffee run. In the grad program we have various initiatives within office hours such as coding club, book club, networking with seniors and much more. After work we go for runs around the yarra river and go bouldering every week.

There are so many events, days and social groups including causes, identities and people that it is a well-rounded all inclusive work environment. There are so many different people from all different types of backgrounds that the culture in some teams are incredible.
