Training & Personal Development at Commonwealth Bank

8.3
8.3 rating for Training, based on 45 reviews
Please describe the training programmes at your company and tell us what skills you've picked up.
Onboarding training is long and can be quite tiring but I do see the value in it. I felt like I could wrap my head around my specific job but also the company on a broader level without having to ask all those questions to my team.
Graduate, Sydney - 20 Sep 2024
From a Graduate's perspective there are 4 type of training delivered. 1. Driven from the Graduate Program there will be specific sessions where specialist from the organisation will come and speak to the cohort on particular topics. 2. Self directed learning from the large library of courses with content specific to the topic of your choosing. This LearnerHome has several learning pathways which can help contribute toward your self development plan. 3. Business Unit Specific training, again similar to the graduate driven sessions, specialist will come from different areas of the organisation to impart expertise, this will most likely be more related to your role and where you sit within the organisation. 4. Comes in the form of on the job training, where peers and other leaders will be vested in your development and helping you become more effective at your responsibilities.

As graduates, we have received formal training on how to be effective presenters, how to manage our time, and more which have all helped us become well-rounded and impressive candidates when it comes to rolling off from our graduate program.

Interactive workshops with added benefits of building rapport with The rest of The graduate cohort. - Learnt how to effectively present (Colin James Method), influencing and managing others & networking.
Graduate, Sydney - 13 Sep 2024
Useful information. However, the graduate program ran some similar sessions as to the internship so it was learning the same thing again.
Graduate, Sydney - 13 Sep 2024
All grads are assigned not only a grad buddy, but also a technical buddy on top of their managers that they can go to for day to day questions. Trainings are important and workload balanced around training

The training is very helpful. I always learn something new. I wish there was more.
Graduate, Sydney - 12 Sep 2024
There aren't many statement of procedures to do the day to day tasks that I've seen. Shadowing others is great but when you get to do your own work, rarely do you find the same situations as the ones you shadowed.

Through the graduate program I had a lot of workshops and training opportunities. It was a great way to learn a range of skills and meet people from across the company to understand what they do.

It's all hands on training that actually help with understanding what the goals and objectives of the team are. Everything I have encountered is well documented but some can be searched and self-studied. The team welcomes you to ask any questions you encounter due to complexity.
Graduate, Sydney - 12 Sep 2024
There are a lot of training and development programs available to all workers. I have enrolled in AWS and Python training courses which I have completed in my own time which has been beneficial for my current rotation.
Graduate, Sydney - 11 Sep 2024
There have been both grad development which has been more tailored towards information about the bank as a whole, and technical skills from an analytical perspective. The bank is big on continuous improvement and it's reflected in the emphasis placed on team members to develop and carry out online learnings.
Graduate, Sydney - 11 Sep 2024
The training i've been exposed to as a grad has been diverse and quite informative. Courses on influencing others, managing emotional intelligence, running a simulation bank, etc, have proved to be invaluable and memorable experiences. In terms of technical skills and in-office soft skills, a lot of it is self-led, which is great, as it allows me to focus on my technical tasks when required as well as unwind by doing some self learning.

The company' formal training is quite good, with the classes, development programs, training modules.. but i found the informal training - on the job training - to have varied a lot. I had to be very independent in searching for answers and how to do things myself. I felt it was frowned upon to be taking too much of my colleague's time. When i was struggling, it would be time consuming to find one-on-one coaching from someone else if i wasnt able to find the solution myself
Graduate, Sydney - 11 Sep 2024
It varies. I understand the need to refresh training every 12 months, but it can be tiresome for many. Some formal training programs such as the analyst onboarding program can also be designed in a way that doesn't suit every type of learning style.
Accounts Manager (previous Grad), Brisbane - 11 Sep 2024
The graduate program had a lot of great training, but more so focused on soft-skills so sometimes hard to implements these learnings. Within data science they had a great training program when we started called Data Science Essentials. We got to learn the important parts of data science and most importantly learning how to use the company systems. Following that we had a 6 week modelling project where we got a real business problem and had to solve them in groups
Associate, Sydney - 11 Sep 2024
Very good. There's alot of free training that they provide and alot of upskilling opportunities too.
Graduate, Sydney - 11 Sep 2024
The company provides access to many learning resources. There are modules that cover basically any technology or soft skill you want to develop. I have just completed my AWS Developer Associate course through the bank and preparing to take the exam soon to earn my certification. Additionally everyone in the team is always willing to help you out and explain things to you when needed.
Graduate, Melbourne - 11 Sep 2024
Monthly grad talks on different topics such as imposter syndrome, sustainability, introduction to banking etc. Fortnightly catch-ups with MOR. Side by sides with different team members.
