Training & Personal Development at Deloitte Australia

Please describe the training programmes at your company and tell us what skills you've picked up.
The training and development programs are very insightful at my company and a few of the skills I have picked up due to these are project management, time management and effective communication
Graduate, Melbourne - 18 Jul 2024
Formal training was terrible - the new graduate program is awful. You sit in zoom calls for 8 hours a day and the training is completely irrelevant to what your day to day entails. Minimal useful skills are taught. I can safely say if I had not been a part of the formal training program, I would have had just as much knowledge as without it. Informal training is few and far between - I often hear at the start of a project the project manager will say "we know you're a grad so there is no expectations" and then you get asked to do things that you don't know how to do, and when you have a go they are often disappointed that you didn't know how to complete the task. I'm often given very vague instructions, and not all project managers are willing to take the time to explain things in more detail if you need it. Despite the above, I have managed to connect the dots to a lot of things I've learned from my degree and put them into practice.

The grad program including all the training sessions at my company took 12 weeks in total, with sessions happening each week. There were times that these sessions clashed with project work and some of them did not provide too much new knowledge, rather reiterating things we already knew. I think training could be shorter and maybe on the job learning would be better.

lots of training courses to ensure transition was smooth

Onboarding was a little slow and less structured. There are development sessions you can sign up for however, would like to have more in-person opportunities and access to other learning eg. Deloitte University which is not available to my knowledge.

As a grad we had 3 months of formal training where we were taught everything down to the smallest skills (i.e., letter writing). We have lots of opportunities to learn, we have access to all of the udemy courses so we can study and upskill. We are encouraged to take certification exams.

Lots of mandatory training especially at the beginning.

Deloitte is known for the effort it puts into its new hires, so it would be tough to go over all of them. For all grads in consulting, we did a few days of induction and learned the administrative expectations of us as employees, including compliance courses everyone must take. As grads, we also took a new mandatory 22-course soft skills track through the first 12 weeks. In our departments, we each had our own forms of bootcamps and crash courses on what we'd be doing, and the rest is learned while you're on the job. You have a coach to assist in your career development and to ask any of your big questions to, and your buddy is assigned as a guide/friend as you learn the ropes, there for helping you settle in and any 'silly' questions you may have.

I had a 12 week graduate training at the start of my graduate program and it covered very important topics that will arise during our time here at Deloitte such as how to do structured problem solving. My team also ran training sessions to learn about what services my team specifically offers to clients

You'll learn a lot on the job but Deloitte has a wealth of knowledge, workshop and training available. It is up to you to decide your path and how much you want to train.

We had a 3 month grad program where I learnt a lot of skills for the workplace and my career. The training sessions were very useful, however they were mainly online and I would have liked to have some more in person training sessions.

The company had a 12 week formal training program that covered the different aspects of being a consultant, which were very helpful to prepare us for our first project. The unofficial training involves getting technical certificates, which is highly encouraged and helps keep us up to date with relevant technical skills. The company has a structure for setting goals and clearly states what is expected at each level in the company. A career coach is a dedicated coach to help us achieve our career goals, I believe it is the most important part of the development structure at my company.

We have a 12 week program called Brilliant Beginnings, it was very thorough and covered a lot of information you would need to know as a grad.
Graduate, Sydney - 11 Jul 2024
Completed a 1.5 week bootcamp in my system area - very valuable experience. Completed firm-wide training program over 12 weeks - a waste of time
Graduate, Melbourne - 11 Jul 2024
Quite limited although my team didn't require much additional training
Intern, Sydney - 06 Feb 2024
Modules mostly but we have access to learn whatever we like in our spare time using CURA.
Graduate, Melbourne - 16 Jan 2023
Training and development programs could be made more available. Most training is self-paced/ self-studied and there are limited options for internal trainings where only a select few may have capacity to attend.
Graduate, Sydney - 16 Jan 2023
The company encourages continuous learning through certification to further my interest and skill within the field.
Midlevel, Sydney - 16 Jan 2023
not entirely sure if all trainings are not good. the online courses selected are ok, but by no means engaging. many trainings are too entry level and not tailored to the team's background. behaviour / communication training for a team of people with psychology/behaviour science background was a bit too imprecise and unsophisticated.

Training systems are great with good support.
