Please describe your company's culture both in the office and after hours. Let us know about the structure and hierarchy, cooperation and teamwork, and socialising amongst colleagues.
Overall I have been met with kindness, support, encouragement, laughter, and inclusion in the teams I have worked for. I have noticed there to be a divide between our offices and I think there is still a lot of work that needs to happen to dispel that divide, but overall the building I have primarily worked out of has been a very relaxing and supportive environment, one I enjoy coming to work.

The culture in our department is really good. There is an emphasis on supporting incoming staff. Some areas are more hierarchical than others but I think we have a relatively flat hierarchical structure which I think is beneficial and supports effective work and "frank and fearless" advice. The graduate program itself has promoted a good work culture and as graduate we have worked to support each other in this transition to the public service which for many of us has been our first office job.

Work culture is interesting. I've made some great friends as I have in any workplace I've been in. Mostly everyone tries their best to maintain a harmonious work environment to make everyone's work experience as pleasant as possible. My whole life, I've tried my hardest to be a good, kind person. But in this job, I feel like there are some people who would take pleasure in seeing me gone. I suppose this is because I don't satisfy everyone's sensibilities on every occasion.

The company's culture has been good, including the culture amongst the graduate cohort.

Every team I have worked in is super friendly and kind.

Everyone practises good work/life balance. In the graduate program there is a lot more of a social culture as we hang out on the weekends and after work but it seems in line areas there is not always that level of social culture. There is a lot of work structure built into the aps but in our department there is a healthy level of hierarchy and it feels like you can be familiar with your ses.

Everyone is kind. There is definitely a hierarchy but it isnt too rigid. There are opportunities to socialise with the other graduates.

Very positive

- working from home is good - not expected to work outside of work hours - socialising is good, e.G. Coffee runs - not too hierarchical
Graduate, Canberra - 02 Sep 2024
- being able to talk to anyone - 'coffee roulette'/trivia/happy-hour initiatives

A little hierarchical - but depends on where you are teamwork - depends on where you are but my area is trying to silo work but there's been discussion that work is becoming more horizontal socialising - it's ok, depends on your team mates/ how involved you want to be as there's definitely opportunities.

Workplace culture is very relaxed, go at you own pace kind of work. The higher-ups and supervisors are very approachable.

Very good in-work culture, welcoming and supportive. Social, after hours side of things is very dependent on the team and could be improved.

Pretty flat hierarchy, easy to converse with management and colleagues cooperate well.

Generally it is really good. Teams cooperate and work well together, are social, management is friendly and approachable.

Flat hierarchies are common, especially in fast-paced teams (which themselves are plentiful). Not all areas fully subscribe to the general cultural norms, generally with a negative effect when they do. Cooperation is commonplace, and teamwork, when used, is efficient and effective. Socialising, for obvious reasons, has generally been down across the past year, but most people have lamented its disappearance - suggesting that normally it is commonplace and welcomed. In the past month or two, I have started to see structured and unstructured socialisation return around the workplace.

Fairly good culture, lots of missed opportunities for 2020 because of covid-19.

Managers are very approachable. Social club does some good work getting people together including happy hours, trivia nights, and fundraisers

Office: very positive - co-workers are welcoming and interested in helping you make the most of your time at the department. Strong sense of purpose and engagement with the work. A bit hierarchical, but even senior staff are generally welcoming and happy to answer questions or invite your input. After hours: happy hours and other social events are available, but aren't necessary to make friends.

The department has a good working culture and is inclusive. The department's social club, run by the graduates, encourages socialising afterhours through happy hours, trivia nights and other informal activities.
