Management at Department of the Treasury

8.2
8.2 rating for Management, based on 41 reviews
How accessible are managers and do they make good mentors? You may want to address internal communication, performance feedback or praise and recognition.
My manager is excellent, very aware of how a graduate needs to be managed differently to other staff members and is very supportive in terms of building skills and learning on the job. My manager is a good communicator and provides thoughtful and constructive performance feedback and recognition.

I have had many managers since commencing at Treasury with different management styles. Some make better mentors than others however they have all been very capable individuals and I have learned a lot from each one. They approach feedback and praise in a very fair and kind manner, considerate of feelings.

The managers and mentors at the company are great, and really helpful. Feedback is provided formally twice a year, with also ongoing informal feedback

They are very accessible, treasury's culture in terms of fostering self improvement and feedback is very evident through the managers, and is especially seen as a graduate. they approach feedback and praise verbally and through constant encouragement. They are open to telling you where you could improve and also where and when you did well.

My managers care about my development and very nice to deal with. Encouraging of my pursuits both at work and outside of work and place a significant emphasis on the importance of wellbeing both of me and other staff.

Highly accessible - flat structure. Always supportive. Good opportunities for upwards feedback as well which is important.

My managers are extremely accessible and supportive in developing my career in the public service. They make great mentors as they have relatable academic experience to me. They provide performance feedback sometimes if I ask but often at their own accord through providing feedback on tasks I complete.

Management is incredibly approachable, internal communication is mostly very casual. I find that Treasury has a very 'hands off' approach to management, where if you want feedback you have to ask for it. They are great at praise and recognition, but sometimes I feel like I want to know how I can improve, and they aren't as good at talking about that - I have to tease it out of them. Additionally, if there are any issues, conflict, or dissatisfaction in the team, management will ignore it for as long as possible rather than just deal with it right away. They prioritise getting the work done over the feelings of the team - which isn't a bad thing, it's just sometimes there needs to be a balance.

Management in Treasury is very engaged with the wellbeing of their staff. There is a culture of collaboration in Treasury and it is very strong between managers and junior staff - good performance is recognised, issues are quickly addressed in a non-confrontational way and feedback is given in a constructive and helpful manner.

I feel secure when talking to my manager and my team. There is a sense of acknowledgement and acceptance and whatever I say is taken on board and truly considered which I appreciate.

In my experience, my line managers are accessible. Some make good mentors, others do not. Some are obsessed with creating a paper trail of internal communications to CYA, others are not. Some provide feedback, praise and recognition, some do not.

I am very satisfied with the care and involvement of my direct managers. My direct managers offer regular feedback and recognition and are great mentors. I am less satisfied with higher-ups as they aren't very accessible.

My managers are great - they're patient, friendly and always willing to provide support/answer questions I have. I don't get super regular feedback, but I don't think that's a big deal.

I think immediate managers are quite responsive and provide good feedback but I've heard like nothing from their bosses.
Graduate, Canberra - 06 Oct 2022
Yes, they are accessible and good mentors. My manager used to be a Treasury grad too. He is keen to help me progress my career, but you do need to make your goals clear.

I've had two managers who have both been very supportive as I've learnt my role, but most impressive is how accessible more senior managers are, virtually any time you can knock on their door for a chat to ask for more information or advice.
