8.0
8.0 rating for Training, based on 41 reviews
Please describe the training programmes at your company and tell us what skills you've picked up.
Informal training is good, there is support to learn data analysis skills. Formal training at QUT is fine, the graduate induction training was also good and covered a lot.
Graduate, Canberra - 12 Sep 2024
Many training workshops in induction and across the year. Most of these are at least somewhat helpful. Learned more about how working in the public service is different to the private sector. I have picked up various communication and analytical skills.
Graduate, Canberra - 12 Sep 2024
thematic training days, APS writing classes, other induction seminars

The training and development programs have been very varied across different skill areas. Some have been more useful than others, particularly the writing workshop, knowing yourself workshop on personality types, ethics and policy and stakeholder engagement. Others have been less useful such as financial management and excel due to the way they were run not the type of content.

There's a formal education program that takes place over the first few months where you are taught options theory. Much of the education also takes place on the desk - through learning from other equity analysts and traders, and working on projects.

They really invest in us in terms of bringing us together as a cohort, learning the Treasury process and also gaining knowledge in how to be a better public servant. This has been achieved mainly through seminars and formal training. The graduate team keeps a strong connection with us and they are very open to answering our questions. this further facilitates the informal training part

Ongoing policy training and professional development works well for treasury staff
Graduate, Canberra - 26 Aug 2024
The formal training opportunities both through onboarding and since have been relevant to the job and a career in the public service. They have included onboarding sessions giving an introduction to the department as well as a series of two-day workshops hearing from experts in public service. Similarly, training from my immediate team on how to complete the job has been fantastic and have seen me develop significantly over my first 6 months in the role.

There is sometimes too much formal training (particularly in mundane topic areas) in the grad program. It is better in my opinion to learn by doing, but I understand that is not always possible.

The QUT training has been valuable because it is staggered and allows me to hone in specific skills after each training period. I personally enjoy them a lot as a break from my BAU. I also have had the opportunity to opt into training of my choosing within my unit, such as the Delivering Great Policy course. I have picked up a foundational understanding of how great policy is developed, which informs my learning of how a policy cycle operates.

The department really emphasises the importance of continual learning. They often have seminars, panels, presentations, guest speakers for the whole of the organisation to tune into, on a whole range of topics. The graduate program specifically invests a lot of time and money into upskilling us in public service skills, which I really appreciate. We have 12 days a year in offsite training run by QUT, with a combo of academic and public service presenters.

there is a formal training and development program run through the Queensland University of Technology as well as an induction program that runs through some of the basics of working at Treasury. There are also periodic seminars on interesting topics presented by the relevant area, some of these overlap across many parts of Treasury and so they are always worthwhile. There are also training sessions available through the intranet that cover a wide range of basic topics.

I had the best time during the first month of training. There was so much to learn and do and many bonding experiences. Some of the presentations were lacklustre and more confusing than others. Further with our QUT program, it would have been much better to walk out with a Master's degree or something of the sort as opposed to minor credentials.

The training has been excellent and relates, specifically, to work done at Treasury.

Regular training with Queensland University of Technology. Learning and development support for graduates, such as Microsoft Excel Training.

Treasury offer a professional third party to deliver various relevant organisational topics, budgeting enough time to digest the content. Internal training is ad-hoc but generally available.
Midlevel, Canberra - 25 Oct 2022
Treasury has a range of training opportunities. E.g. in less than a year I have been able to attend various workshops and training days such as a tax law workshop and writing for government workshop. My division also offers fortnightly technical workshops on topics specific to the division- topics can be anything from working with policy to create legislation and drafting EMs for ExCo.

The Grad Program has extensive training and access to great courses. Training on the job is a little more informal, thrown into it - but I like that, I think it's the best way to learn!
Graduate, Canberra - 14 Oct 2022
I think they are quite applicable to the workforce and they're a great opportunity to meet other grads.
Graduate, Canberra - 06 Oct 2022
The on the job training is incredibly helpful. My work also provides training for specific writing styles and products. If you ask for training on something particular, managers and the grad team are often willing to organise something for the grads.
