Management at Energy Queensland

8.2
8.2 rating for Management, based on 35 reviews
How accessible are managers and do they make good mentors? You may want to address internal communication, performance feedback or praise and recognition.
Every manager has a different style, so its hard to make a general statement. Direct managers are very accessible, however department managers are generally quite busy so speaking to them can be quite challenging. Given the hierarchical structured nature of the business, internal communication, performance feedback and praise/recognition is well-defined and procedural

My managers are very proactive in wanting to be a part of my development through the grad program. They provide great insights and challenges for me to work towards completing.

One of my mentors was terrible at being able to answer day to day questions about processes and procedures and honestly seemed to not really care.
Graduate, Brisbane - 12 Sep 2024
Supportive, understanding and knowledgeable. Easy to access (in most cases) and ready to ensure you achieve your performance Goals and needs.

Managers are always supportive and open to conversation; however, they are very busy and can be difficult to have conversations and can take a while or sometimes forget to reply to emails or requests.

Depending on which level of management is being referred to depends on how accessible they are. It also depends on your perspective. The direct manager above you is easy to contact and very approachable. However, the managers above this will usually not be your first point of contact on the graduate program. These managers are still usually very approachable and welcoming of graduates.

Managers are very knowledgeable and make time for you. As part of the program graduates are also place with a mentor for the duration of the program who is senior member of the organisation.

Mentors are assigned from the managerial level to help inter-team connections and communications for newcomers. performance feedback is comprehensive and open include praise and recognitions. Managers are ever approachable.

It's quite mixed, some managers are more approachable than others. Some approach communication with a meeting once a month, others maybe once every 6 months.

I find it easy to approach my managers and supervisors.

Many managers are accessible and happy to talk. I typically only reach out as required or where I work week to week with them. Hierarchy is different in different groups so makes a difference. My last role team members sit under a senior, with multiple seniors under a principal, with the principals then sitting under a manager. In this case I did not speak with the manager, only seniors and the principal engineer. Previous teams all engineers, seniors and principals sat directly under the manager and therefore we would directly talk to the manager week to week.

Most managers I have worked with are quite assessible and give good feedback and recognition.

As part of the graduate program, you will have a mentor you may meet for lunch etc every fortnight who will give you advice on your development as a professional.

The few managers I have had in my short time at EQL have been great. As a graduate, I have found I need a lot of assistance and guidance with my work. My (as of now, 2) managers have been very welcoming and open to assisting me, making time to go through things with me and ensuring I have understood. I have felt very comfortable asking managers questions about new, and old, topics.

Strong mentors and supervisors. Generally accessible, don't hesitate to speak up if you aren't getting the most out of your learning.
Graduate, Rockhampton - 25 Oct 2023
I am extremely satisfied with my direct managers, much less with the upper levels.
Graduate, Brisbane - 25 Oct 2023
Their decisions make very little difference in what you do on a day to day in my opinion. More experience staff (be they managers or not) are great mentors. EQL buddies you up with a mentor when you first start and ensures that you have regular meetings with them to discuss your development. This is GREAT. I regularly seek feedback on my performance. This is formalized in performance reviews every 6 months if you are less motivated to seek feedback.
Graduate, Brisbane - 19 Oct 2023
The department managers in my current role have been extremely supportive, great mentors and are easy to approach.
Graduate, Brisbane - 17 Oct 2023
Immediate managers & supervisors are great - feel comfortable raising concerns & questions with them, as well as asking for guidance when required. The higher you go up, the less interaction with management. Company wide issue due to the size of the company. Lots of internal comms & communication channels
