The opportunities are quite linear and stringent with the time requirements to the next promotion. However, there has been instances where people have skipped a band.

I think progress is recognised and rewarded through the rating system, I think it is a fair system that rewards effort but does not put undue pressure on you

Promotions happen at the start of every year. Depending on your feedback, it can take a while for an FTI employee to move up the ranks. To be promoted, you need to have performed at an exceptional standard all year round.

From Graduate to Manager/Director, you'd usually take about 5 years to reach that level, so 1 level promotion per year on average

Ensure that you are doing your job to the best of your ability and promotions are likely

I have noticed that often two colleagues at the same level will be paid and progressed at exactly the same rate (even if one is significantly better in terms of performance).

Promotion occurs yearly upon successful performance. There are clear performance goals in place that provide you with an opportunity to demonstrate what you have learnt and achieved during the year.

I understand the career progression structure and what I need to do to move up. I do however believe this process needs to place more value on merit rather than time spent in a position.

We are encouraged to receive regular documented feedback from our managers to support our ambitions within the company. There are performance review half-annually

Competencies are well-defined for every level, but the fixed system limits promotion to occur once per year.
