Culture at Google AU

The culture is relaxed, people are chill. Some teams are closer (more social) than others. In terms of socialising, some people disappear at 5pm, others stick around to play cards, pool, board games etc. There's no real pressure either way. The team structure/hierarchy can be somewhat confusing with graduates generally having a management chain of 9 people that stretches all the way up to Sundar. Some teams seem to get shuffled around/renamed every few months but that doesn't really impact what you do on the day-to-day.

Managers are really nice, colleagues are helpful

Not very hierarchical, every opinion is respected and heard. Strong focus on helping others in the team, and always very social, even with people I do not directly work with.

Teams are very social and most people are happy to stay back and chat for a bit on Thursdays (though it's completely fine to decline and leave on time). My current team is a larger one so we do tend to go in groups mostly based on smaller teams within the larger teams. There's also a stronger emphasis on coming into the office for the midweek now. However it's also okay to wfh on occasion.

Good work life balance. Everyone is out by 5pm, there's no communication after 5pm. Team could be more social. Harder to meet people outside of your immediate team.

Google has a great culture especially in the office.
