Please describe the training programmes at your company and tell us what skills you've picked up.
The firm's training process was extremely thorough. The graduates were all flown to Melbourne for an entire week of induction. I have picked up many skills in practice, including drafting, negotiation, court etiquette and overall professionalism.
Graduate, Sydney - 23 Aug 2024
The formal training was quite comprehensive, with most of the standard induction programs. A lot of it has been learning on the job though. Frequent lunchtime training sessions scattered throughout the year are helpful.
Graduate, Melbourne - 23 Aug 2024
Training has been mostly great in terms of broad topics. I do wish there was more area-specific training for grads as we are usually put on a team with no knowledge and just expected to pick things up as we go. This is totally understandable given how busy most teams are, but even just a few hours of basic area training would be so great.

The training and induction gave me confidence when I began work in my team. You can really see how much effort the firm puts in to ensure their graduates feel supported. We have continued training throughout the year as well.
Graduate, Sydney - 31 Jul 2024
I have been actively mentored by my supervising partner (partner) every day since I have been here. I have never felt more supported with respect to training in any job I have had before.
Graduate, Melbourne - 31 Jul 2024
The formal induction training covers all skills required to move into a practice area, such as style guide, billing and work flow. There are multiple learning and training sessions per week covering practical law, lawyer skills and professional development.
Graduate, Perth - 30 Jul 2024
The firm supports you to undertake your PLT. The firm also provides weekly seminars and training which are great to gain skills as a junior lawyer.

Graduate, Melbourne - 30 Jul 2024
The programs have been good but nothing compares to doing new work in practice.
Graduate, Brisbane - 30 Jul 2024
There are consistent ongoing training modules which you are required to attend and all are useful. The on the job training varies from team to team, but the mentors usually provide you with tasks then provide you with feedback.

regular training for graduates
Graduate, Melbourne - 30 Jul 2024
We have specific team trainings, specific level trainings (junior, graduates, etc) and other ad hoc trainings that are a mixture of internal and external, in person and online and I feel supported that all these systems are put in place to develop ourselves on a personal skill level, but the firm generally in achieving the best results as a collective.
Graduate, Melbourne - 15 Jul 2024
The training is outstanding. I feel like they dedicate a lot of time and money into training. They have training sessions regularly, and if you feel you need a refresher, there are always more than willing to provide one on one training or group trainings. I would say as a Grad, we have at least 1 training every two weeks.
Graduate, Melbourne - 12 Jul 2024
I feel like there is almost too much training. It's really full on, and can make your workload difficult to manage in the initial few weeks if you're an existing staff member.
Graduate, Other (Please specify) - Newcastle - 11 Jul 2024

The firm is committed to its lawyers professional and business development. This is reflected in the abundance of opportunities available to engage in training, offered both in person and online. If a person is not able to attend any session, they are not penalised and often able to view the session via recording if appropriate.

The training is a lot however, it prepares you on how to follow the Hall & Wilcox H brand.
Graduate, Darwin - 04 Jul 2024
The firm invests a lot in junior lawyer/graduate training and ongoing professional development training. We have so many training modules - online interactive modules, online seminars/lectures and in person sessions. We are consistently attending these sessions and I feel like I am always learning something new - mostly professionally but they also have training sessions on other aspects of our personal lives - e.g. budgeting, superannuation and taxes, developing personal plans for success, etc.
