Please tell us about promotion possibilities and fill us in on what it takes to move up the ranks.
As a graduate, I am satisfied that I have been, and will continue to be exposed to different teams and types of work as I desire. I am satisfied that I will have career progression, though I am wary that the speed of career progression for some in regional offices can be slower than in Canberra.
Graduate, Darwin - 13 Sep 2024
I feel as if we are given great opportunities from the get-go to prove that we are worth a promotion at the conclusion of the ELP.
Graduate, Brisbane - 13 Sep 2024
The more you choose to take on and learn the more chance you have of moving up the ranks. Its all about applying yourself
Graduate, Darwin - 12 Sep 2024
At the end of the graduate program there is an opportunity to be promoted two levels above. This is a great opportunity. Beyond this, I am unsure what it takes to move up to the executive level
Graduate, Canberra - 12 Sep 2024
There are always opportunities in the agency to progress, you just have to be willing to try new things. However, you really do need to put in the work to progress. This means interviewing for positions (even if you don't want the position) to practice, actively seek feedback and try again. You also need to be having these discussions with your supervisor and putting it in your Engage so they can help and support you to find acting opportunities or opportunities to expand you skills and experiences.
Graduate, Canberra - 12 Sep 2024
Once you're in the Australian Public Service, career options abound. Within the Agency, there is a lot of movement and fluidity, and leadership even encourage us to experience different program areas to get some fresh perspective on our work. Beyond the Agency, people move quite easily around the APS, and there are just so many jobs across so many departments.
Graduate, Katherine - 11 Sep 2024
There are often recruitment opportunities that arise, however, it seems difficult to move up in level. There are plenty of opportunities to formally act above your level and this assists in proving your capability.
Graduate, Canberra - 11 Sep 2024
The progression opportunities are great, often there are acting opportunities and everyone seems very invested in each other's career progression.
Graduate, Canberra - 11 Sep 2024
It's hard to tell yet but they seem good.
Graduate, Canberra - 11 Sep 2024
Mostly aligned to Canberra. You need to learn how to interview really well and have connections for references.
Graduate, Canberra - 20 Aug 2024
You need to gain experience and then apply for bulk rounds or vacancies. It can sometimes be challenging to be promoted but the process is designed to be fair to candidates and agency.
Graduate, Canberra - 15 Jul 2024
They are embedded in the grad program
Graduate, Canberra - 25 Jul 2023
Not sure, what promotions are available at this stage of my career development, as I am only new to the agency.
Graduate, Darwin - 25 Jul 2023
Have yet to experience career progression but it is evident that this organisation will support opportunities for us to progress.
Graduate, Brisbane - 14 Jun 2023
Promotion seems to be attainable, but I'm hesitant about the prospect of advancing beyond APS6, because EL-level staff seem to have a massively increased workload (resulting in regular unpaid overtime) that I don't feel is compensated for by the pay increase.
Graduate, Canberra - 15 May 2023
There seem to be opportunities to interview for a higher responsibilities and also for different opportunities.
