8.3
8.3 rating for Management, based on 30 reviews
How accessible are managers and do they make good mentors? You may want to address internal communication, performance feedback or praise and recognition.
They have been great in all of my experiences so far, especially those in National Office.
Graduate, Brisbane - 13 Sep 2024
All the managers I have encountered in NIAA are well liked due to their transparency, their commitment to being apart of the team. They are open minded, non-judgmental and are.

I have some really amazing supervisors, where we would meet twice a week specifically to discuss feedback, performance, communication of tasks and priorities, executive communications, etc. At the same time, I have also had the opposite experience. I don't think managers make good mentors: these are separate roles and responsibilities and be in conflict. I have had managers that have acted as a mentor because of how supportive they are which was really amazing. However, if your manager is the challenge you are facing, then you require mentorship from another person.

My Director and Supervisor are great. However, as you go high, it is harder to gain access. In saying that, my leaders are great at acknowledging peoples work and how busy we can be and to remind us to look after our wellbeing. We are currently working on getting better feedback and looking at ways to develop internal communication.

All managers I've had have been amazing as colleagues as mentors. They have been very approachable and generous with their time and attention. There is a good culture around investing in each other. The graduate program team help connect us with additional mentoring opportunities.
Graduate, Katherine - 11 Sep 2024
Managers are quite accessible and always make time, within reason, to engage. Internal communication could be strengthened, but I think that is a reflection of the broad scope of our work rather than managerial comms.

Very accessible.

There more you go up, the less communication and more strategic thinking.

My direct supervisor and my director are both readily accessible, and they actively care about my wellbeing and support me in my professional development. The senior executives are much more removed.

Could be better.

I think my previous team was a unique case, with both the personality and team structure contributing to a very close relationship with my supervisor and superiors. They are highly accessible, actively make time for me, are excellent mentors, and gave quality feedback.

Managers re busy people with deadlines to meet. I find that in the small time you get with them, they have some good advice and are friendly. It is still a bit of a stretch to say they know everything and would be great to have one on one coffee and chats once in a while to break down any barriers and to get to know each other as well.

As a part of the graduate program, I have a mentor, which has been an amazing developmental opportunity. There is a lot to learn from management and good leadership across different teams.

My direct supervisor and my team head are both accessible and supportive.

Managers are very accessible. Even though I am a grad, I feel that my input is valued by management. It is also very easy to chat to managers.
