Please describe the training programmes at your company and tell us what skills you've picked up.
Rigorous and interesting cultural competency course is compulsory. There are a range of formal training modules staff can complete, these have some use but are limited if online and only one-off meetings.

I think that some of the Grad training could be more targeted and less abstract, but in general it is quite good, and the optional training available to us online is quite extensive in options.

I feel that the training sessions provided by FUSION do not provide long-term learnings/teachings that I will take on going forward. The models that they present are not used by the Agency in practice. I think it would be more useful to receive training from different areas of the Agency. For example, the stakeholder management training could be presented by staff from a regional office. This way we learn the skills and strategies within the context of the Agency.

You can access acorn which is a platform for training and development programs you can enrol in. There is also mandatory training you must complete every year. We are also encouraged to participate in cultural training. On top of that, some people have the opportunity to do extra curricula learning through a uni or through partnerships with other organisations such JY and IDEP. From using these sources, I have gone from an APS 3 to and APS 6 with 2.5 years. I have also developed the confidence to undertake corporate responsibilities and really developed my communication skills.

Best training I've done has been watching and listening out in communities. The program areas I've worked in have been amazing at organising some amazing training opportunities for me.

There are often training programs on acorn and sometimes your work group will offer other learnings.

Formal training has been reduced and lacks the benefits it’s used to have.

Lots of training opportunities in the grad program - the most noteworthy being the Place Based Development training. I would like to see more wellbeing and trauma based training, specifically earlier in the graduate program. My current team seems to have more informal training attached, just through the sheer number of systems used.

Skills are varied. Training on the job is good. Development programs are designed to be done in your own timeframe.
