Please tell us about promotion possibilities and fill us in on what it takes to move up the ranks.
Applying for and getting higher duty roles as they open (usually emailed around the office). Clear progression and a lot of support from coworkers and managers. However, there are little opportunities (only a handful relevant roles a year, mostly higher level than able to do currently)
Graduate, Brisbane - 10 Sep 2024
Difficult to get a promotion and permanent opportunities
Graduate, Brisbane - 06 Sep 2024
Decent opportunities for progression into similar roles with more responsibility, however less opportunity to upskill.
Graduate, Brisbane - 05 Aug 2024
Career opportunities for designers are pretty limited so I am considering pivoting what I do. You have to wait for positions to open up before you can apply for them so I'm unlikely to be promoted within my 2 year grad program unless I apply for a higher position within another department. There are lots of opportunities once you're within the Government system which is cool.

Positions comes up as people move on/retire and within my team/branch/department. It's the kind of role where as I develop my skills, opportunities for progression can be realised. There is a defined pathway for me to go through as I become more competent in my area. The department supports training beyond my role as well as applying for new positions within Queensland Government.

It is good there are a lot of opportunities in the Qld government however, it is dependent on if there is a position available and there is no guaranteed permanent role.
Graduate, Brisbane - 05 Aug 2024
Progression opportunities regularly circulated to employees. Everyone is encouraged to apply for promotion opportunities when they present themselves.

Currently, at the end of my two-year graduate program there is no permanent position. I've spoken to other government agency graduates, and it seems Education is the only exception. Which is really strange, to invest two years into a graduate only to risk them leaving for another company by not offering a permanent position.

In my position, if you work hard and show your willingness to learn, you have many opportunities to further your career.
Graduate, Brisbane - 31 Jan 2023
Moving up the ranks is a real possibility, there are plenty of job openings, moving across different areas is also possible. It requires updating your CV, preparing for the interviews, and to show interest and willingness to learn.
Midlevel, Brisbane - 31 Jan 2023
I think there are opportunities, but there isn't any plan or roles for graduates after they finish their 2 years. Need at least a few AO4 or AO5 roles available for us to step into once we finish, but there is nothing.
Graduate, Brisbane - 31 Jan 2023
Very hard to move up the ranks when you are just starting out. Only way to move up is to do very well in interviews or have an insane amount of knowledge in a specific field.
Graduate, Brisbane - 30 Jan 2023
I can't say much about promotion possibilities but the graduate program is two years long, which certainly provides a nice level of security and career prospects.
Graduate, Brisbane - 30 Jan 2023
At the end of the graduate program, we will be progressed onto different roles.
Graduate, Brisbane - 30 Jan 2023
Good for the short term, AO5/6 is a decent salary that will absolutely get me a long way, but after that it's all management since the department is quite small (that would be many years away) so overall it would be more rewarding I think to look for either other departments or corporate work which could offer a lot more flexibility as well as scope to learn with larger departments.
Graduate, Brisbane - 30 Jan 2023
Structured progression and many opportunities.
Graduate, Brisbane - 30 Jan 2023
Currently I can't say anything because it's just been two weeks in my role so let's see how company act in terms of promotion.
Graduate, Brisbane - 30 Jan 2023
Do your job to the best of your ability and be willing to learn about what others do. Multiple people have come to our team and moved up this way.
