Please tell us about promotion possibilities and fill us in on what it takes to move up the ranks.
It is not specially outlined which is terrible. They are very much unclear on what our career growth prospects looks like
Graduate, Brisbane - 13 Sep 2024
Although I feel its communicated that there are opportunities available, I'm personally unclear on the specific steps of how to being building the skills beyond attending learning courses and notifying your team leader. This is due to my own inexperience however. I don't feel I can accurately reflect how well the company does in this aspect.
Graduate, Brisbane - 12 Sep 2024
Frequent, structured performance bonuses and pay increases are appreciated as a graduate. Other graduates seem to report that rolling off the graduate program is a relatively smooth transition.
Graduate, Perth - 02 Sep 2024
unsure what the mechanism is for promotion. Good and hard workers are undervalued. The company appears to actively try to keep salaries low in an attempt to reduce costs.

Moving up the ranks or be successful in Santos from the outside appears that you need to be favoured by a manager and it is not always related to work ethic and production. Unless you are willing to take an undesirable role it is difficult to receive the deserved recognition of your capabilities and performance. It almost always necessitates agitation from an external; job offering and/or an internal move taking the productive and skilled employee from the team they are in to a new one, wasting the knowledge they have acquired to the detriment of their previous team.

I have been given a lot of support to pursue roles and fill-in opportunities within the company. People with a good attitude are encouraged heavily. Ability to move around between roles or leadership is very easy.

I am satisfied with the career progression available however the pay scale increases does not satisfy my desire. The cost cutting processes which Santos undergoes is at the expense of the employee and therefore, the retention of staff will eventually bite them in the ass.

Pretty good for the graduate rotations.

Difficult to see a lot of career progression without moving around companies
Graduate, Brisbane - 15 Jul 2024
While still a part of the graduate program there doesn't seem to be any promotion opportunities or potential to move up the ranks of the company until after we are finished the program. The grad program at Santos is 3 years while on average a lot of other grad programs in the industry are only 2 years which means we are unable to move up to a junior engineer until after 3 years and we are not considered to have "completed" a grad program by other companies until after this time. There also isn't much clarity around what rolling off the grad program looks like in terms of role/rank/job grade and salary etc.
Graduate, Brisbane - 05 Jul 2024
Being a large company that doesn't have many boundaries for changing teams the opportunities are seemingly endless.
Graduate, Brisbane - 30 Jun 2024
As a graduate you are required to rotate into different teams over the three year graduate program but the rotations do not always match up with yearly performance reviews. If you rotate into a new team just before your yearly performance review the work you completed in your previous team may be over looked.
Graduate, Brisbane - 27 Jun 2024
The promotion process is not widely shared and it can be different to find out relevant information.
Graduate, Perth - 26 Jun 2024
I have no idea what happens when I finish the graduate program and what happens to my pay.
Graduate, Perth - 26 Jun 2024
Have not been provided much information regarding progression, but there seems to be decent opportunity to move up the ranks
Graduate, Adelaide - 26 Jun 2024
There is good opportunity within the company but it is much better to try and move to another company to get a decent pay rise.
Graduate, Brisbane - 25 Jun 2024
Lack of clarity/transparency on future opportunities and next steps upon completion of the grad program, prospective future salary range, etc.
Graduate, Perth - 24 Jun 2024
3 years as grad Senior once RPEQ From there, not overly clear how to progress. Also minimal transparency on job grades, pay bands, etc.
Graduate, Brisbane - 24 Jun 2024
Promotions seems to be merit based, but not something I have direct experience with yet. Lots of cases of engineers recently off the grad program being given roles with high levels of responsibility.
Graduate, Adelaide - 24 Jun 2024
There are many opportunities to take on new roles. There is a fairly clear career progression framework for engineers.
