Diversity at Santos

7.6
7.6 rating for Diversity, based on 53 reviews
Please provide further information on diversity with respect to women, ethnic minorities and LGBT. Please comment on issues such as recruitment, retention, promotion, child care, maternity leave, etc.
I believe improvement on the above topics has been a focused concern for the company. I'm happy with the level of gender and racial diversity I see daily in the teams and offices. Office culture also has a good focus on bringing experiences from other countries and jobs to help current projects. However, I've also heard rumours that recruitment of graduates is skewed towards reaching a quota of female recruits and the recruitment is capped if equal numbers of male/females are not reached, potentially depriving male applicants of opportunities. Hopefully this isn't true, I thought it worth bringing up.

Generally inclusive environment

Seems to be a big push on increasing female participation. Work place is very multicultural.

Santos employs a wide ranging, diverse cohort of staff. Across the management cohort there is a mix of men and women.

There is no discrimination in my team. Does not matter who you are

Santos is actually pretty good at diversity and there has been a diverse group of people in each team I see and the women to men ratio is very good compared to reports from other companies within the industry. There also seems to be an increasing number of women moving into higher management positions over time which is good to see. I've heard the child care subsidies and maternity leave options for Santos employees are also very good which is great.

There is a push on hiring women that feels a little unnatural at times. Incredible lack of diversity in management roles

I think they are trying hard to fix this but there is still a divide.

Diverse workplace environment

Seems to be intentionally 50/50 on gender. Diverse ethnicities. Unsure on LGBTQ
Graduate, Brisbane - 24 Jun 2024
Graduate intake seems about 50/50 between males and females, which is higher than the ratio graduating from university
Graduate, Adelaide - 24 Jun 2024
Graduate program cohort appears to be diverse; in particular, approximately 50/50 male/female which I believe is a great progression in getting females into STEM. However, I believe a person should be hired on their ability to complete a job, not to meet a quota. Regarding child care & maternity leave, unsure on the company's stance to this. Am aware, however, there are government rules/standards pertaining to this which a company must inherently adopt, with the option to supplement/add-on - unsure on how the company compares.

There is quite a lot of diversity in my department at work. My own team contains a very mixed background of home countries and ethnicities, however I'm a white man so I'd probably listen to others opinions more than mine on this.

The diversity with regards to women seems to be an obvious effort, with women being well-represented in the current grad program. There also seems to be an obvious gap with a lack of women in mid-level management. This could be an issue with retention, as there is less flexibility with working from home, which makes it difficult for women with children, almost always the primary caregiver, to juggle work and home life. This means it's likely this gap will continue to perpetuate, despite the effort of hiring women at entry level. There has been a presentation to do with First Nations people at Santos, but from my day to day work life I haven't seen any evidence of efforts made in this regards. Maternity leave seems good. I have seen no evidence of LGBTQ+ inclusion/diversity efforts.

I work in a fairly male dominated department of my company. I see the manager trying to recruit, support and retain more female engineers into the team. Great child care and maternity leave packages.

Santos appears committed to diversity but should maybe celebrate events supporting ethnic minorities, indigenous people and the LGBTQIA+ community through external events with staff attendance as well as in-house presentations with morning tea.
