Working Hours at Santos

7.7
7.7 rating for Working Hours, based on 53 reviews
How flexible is your company when it comes to hours?
My work hours are not flexible in any way as I am currently site based so my work hours are directly arranged with my back to back rather than just by myself
Graduate, Brisbane - 13 Sep 2024
Santos is very flexible and understanding with work hours. My only note is greater allowance should be made for toil hours (i.e. the requirements to earn them and the amount earned should better reflect the time invested in out of hours operations support).

Very flexible, I love flex Friday and respect the additional hours required to work to cover that time out of office. I am not entirely satisfied with working away from home at sites for long days without appropriate compensation.

Flexibility is good, little fuss is made when needing to leave early for personal events or sickness. Some days have extended hours due to leasing with site, but not overly frequent. Onsite work is demanding with 12 hour days, but fairly decent flexibility providing time in lieu.

Flex Friday is a bonus, but you need to work the required number of hours to participate. You can expect to start early and finish late.

Outside of illness and injury hours are poorly managed in my role. One would think the on call and out of hours aspect would provide leniency with working regular office hours. What happens in reality is that during on call periods hours are regularly in excess of 10-12 hours in a day, and office hours sometimes approach this too. There is no adequate remuneration or dispensation for this lost time.

The company is fairly flexible with the start and stop work hours. As long as you get the work done the team leaders do not seem to mind.

Hour flexibility exists in the office, not so much in the field

Better now we have flex Friday

Flex Fridays are great and allow me to have more flexibility with my working hours in the office. However, the flexibility around the field roster is very restricted and there is not much room for movement in the rosters. The roster is not flexible around public holidays and we do not get time in lieu for public holidays that occur during our field trips or during our RDO time. Recently we also haven't been getting time in lieu for working during our RDO time when attending training courses (which have been requested to be completed by management) which is quite ridiculous.

Very happy with the flex hours - if I take a extended lunch break (1 hr) I can just stay overtime afterwards (30 mins). I don't participate in the flex Fridays but I would if there was a bit more flexibility surrounding them (e.g. if we could take them on a different day, or if we could take the alternate Fridays instead).

At times you are required to out of working hours particularly when you are dealing with operations. Graduates who are required to be in the field get an extra loading for being out of the office and also get time off when they are back. Graduates that work in operations do not get time off or toil, despite being on call and continuously getting phone calls through the night and on the weekends. Some team leaders are more flexible than others but my first team leader required to show up to work everyday despite being awake through the night. Fatigue is a major risk in the field so why is it not taken as seriously in the office? I have given a rating of 6 as we now get flex Friday's but then again if you are on operations you still have to work.

Flexibility is great. Implementation of a 9-day fortnight was well received.

I work a lot of overtime as I support operations 24 hours. My boss is really good at making sure I get breaks - however, the redundancies have reduced our manpower significantly leaving a lot of work split between less people. My overtime is not rewarded or recognised by anyone other than my leader.

Currently on a two week on/off field roster which is very good. Flexibility in old office based role was also good as my leader was open to shifting hours around to accommodate appointments etc. Often spent extra hours when working in office however due to workload.

Flexible on work timing and flex Friday's is great.

Work hours are fair and manageable. Flex Friday, flex start/finish time and WFH days really enhance work-life balance and are appreciated. This is one of the main reasons for staying with Santos so far.

I work 7:30 - 4:15 each day, usually with a 30 minute lunch. We also get every second Friday off. I also have a field rotation where I work for 7 days, 11 hours a day; followed by 5 consecutive days off

37.5 hours per week on a 9-day fortnight.
