The company's work culture is excellent. People in the office are so friendly and helpful. After-hours parties and games/footy days are awesome.

South32 work culture embraces employees from different areas and departments to work together to achieve common goals. Caring about each other so we trust, we work together, and we reach excellence

The culture is okay. Due to the current circumstances on Groote Eylandt, it is a little challenging as people are not happy with the effects from the cyclone and the ongoing effects post the cyclone. This hasn't directly affected me but it is visible out on the floor. Everyone is extremely friendly if you're willing to have a go downstairs and get involved. Outside of work it is good, people are willing to catch up to socialise and talk about things other than work.

It's a difficult question to answer. It's such a broad ranging spectrum of people and cultures you interact with on a daily basis. It heavily depends on the teams and people you interact with. Overall at GEMCO, I would rank it below average. There is a strong us and them mentality between departments, which hinders collaboration. Working independently to each other, when I strongly believe a lot of the work is far more multi-disciplinary then what it is typically assumed. We weren't given the chance to do the yourvoice/myvoice survey, which I think was a bad choice by the company. We have been given a momentous task to recover from, and a lot of people I believe are unhappy with how upper leadership is handling the problem. For one thing, I know this probably isn't the place to voice this, but I have no other forum to state this. We were told even prior to the cyclone that we were needing to cut costs with the low index price of the product, and yet they go ahead and make a whole new upper management position so increased the numbers of managers at this place. How does that make sense? When you talk with people, I think majority of the conversations are negative, also leading to the poor culture, they are unhappy with this, that, and the other thing that's facing them at work. But we haven't been given a forum to raise these issues. So it goes unnoticed. Somethings I will add are silly to complain about. But others are quite valid. Part of the restart was a workshop where we were given an opportunity to raise some of these concerns, and I think that workshop was a massive success, not just in that area, it was a really great session for all people in the department.

South32 corporate has a great vision for the company, but it hasn't necessarily translated well onto site. A lot of work needs to happen in regard to inclusivity, respect for women in the workplace, and welcoming new employees. Furthermore, there's been a lot of turnover recently due to the job market in WA, which makes it hard to stay positive and believe that this really is the best place to work. Social-wise it's OK but there aren't very many young people, which will make it difficult for any new graduates if they're not local.

Cooperative and supportive behaviour by all the staff on the ground and underground so far during work. Attended one office related after hours meet up and it was good. No complains or any reservations so far.

I like that it is very structured in the sense that you are aware who you need to speak with on certain matters. everyone that I have met has been very lovely and willing to do what is required for the company.

My team is very sociable. On site, we will play squash 1-2 times a week with each other. Always sit together for lunch. Will sometimes catch up with each other during our off swings.

Most people are very approachable and happy to help out by teaching me new things which is important to me as a learning graduate. I haven't yet been exposed to the culture outside of office hours.

In office culture can sometimes be ruled by production pressures. Outside of work culture depends on site. Some sites have great after hours cultures

good work culture

Team members have high expectations when it comes to delivery but also attaining work life balance. Often their expectation for you to have work life balance does not extend to themselves or their leaders. Often team members have young families so socialising after work can be difficult. Teamwork is encouraged and support is provided whenever needed.
