Culture at Stockland

8.9
8.9 rating for Culture, based on 44 reviews
Please describe your company's culture both in the office and after hours. Let us know about the structure and hierarchy, cooperation and teamwork, and socialising amongst colleagues.
For me, the best part of Stockland has always been the culture. Every interaction I had with the company from before I joined to now working closely with so many people and teams within the company have been absolutely wonderful. There is a hierarchy but everyone is very approachable. I have easily been able to have catchups with even our general managers. And as part of the graduate program, we have had multiple sessions with the members of SLT where they have both explained about their area of the business and allowed us to ask questions. My own team members and the members of the other teams that I have worked with are very open to calls, messages, and meetings. Everyone is very eager to help out or refer the next person who can be of help. I found this within my first month of working here when I had to request help from senior members of another team and they set up a call and answered the questions I had. We have different opportunities for socialising. Every month there are drinks and snacks for all employees to come together and socialise. Grads have their own small events which we organise ourselves such as drinks, sports (bouldering, running, soccer, etc.) which we do outside of work. Then there are team events for example, we have done ping-pong tournaments, board games, and axe-throwing. One of the managers in our team has taught me techniques for bouldering too as he has been doing it for many years.

There need to be more networking/social events.

Stockland is a very welcoming and friendly workplace & would recommend to anyone wanting to get into the property industry. Each head office offers great after hours events throughout the month & hosts casual events during work hours from time to time. Office is hot desking so lower tier workers (like myself) are mingling with General Managers & Executives which promotes a very inclusive & approachable setting.

Very friendly and supportive culture. Some teams are easier to get along with than others, as one could expect in any other teams in other organizations.

The office culture is positive, with a friendly atmosphere where colleagues are always willing to assist one another. Inter-team communication is straightforward, and in the finance department, we host monthly events such as morning teas to foster networking and build relationships. Additionally, the graduate program is highly effective in promoting camaraderie through organised social events that facilitate mutual support and networking among participants.

Everyone is so friendly and helpful during hours. Out of hours events are rare but well worth it.

Company culture is great and I am comfortable speaking and working with anyone no matter the hierarchy. There are many social events to get to know others in the organisation.

Stockland has a great culture that embraces diversity and inclusion. In my experience with my current team, there is no feeling of structure or hierarchy - we are all treated equally and everyone is happy and willing to support each other. Being part of the graduate program has been a great introduction to Stockland to learn about what Stockland does, and the culture and behaviours that are encouraged. I have been able to connect with many of my peers in the graduate program and make meaningful connections as we go through similar yet different experiences in Stockland. Having the ability to catch up with other grads and hear about the things they are working on is also a great way to get more insight into Stockland's operations and how each business unit supports Stockland's strategy.

Culture is generally very good, particularly in my current team. Other parts of the business still have a ways to go in terms of moving past the 'boys club' of development.

Culture as a whole is quite good, but does vary from team to team. Some teams are more reliant on hierarchy, while others are more balanced. The socialising aspect could be improved upon however, as many people prefer to just do work and leave for the day.

Everyone is approachable and no one is expected to know everything. Senior managers promote work life balance and take on board employee feedback

From day 1 you feel comfortable in your environment. The company drive collaboration and innovation and understand the importance of varying opinions. Work events are also a lot of fun.

While a hierarchy is ultimately inevitable, there is an open-door policy. So long as someone has time, they are willing to give you their time over a cup of coffee to discuss their work, their team, and their lives with you. The Chief of IMT, Sharmila, is one of the nicest people I have met. She has allowed me to cohost our monthly meetings earlier. She formed a social committee for our department, which I am a part of too. In the committee, we plan and organise social events on a regular basis. Everyone at Stockland are very helpful and it is almost as if they are chasing you to ask their help instead of the other way around. My team could be the most social one here. We have many social events during the month within our team. We have a team meeting where we eat, play, and plan. We have lunches together. We celebrate birthdays. We value each other. We have monthly end-of-month drinks where the teams come together to relax and socialise. Everyone is very insistent about not working outside of work hours. In my first performance review, while I was nervous at first about perhaps not doing enough, instead what happened was the data architect of our team mentioned that on a certain date I worked after hours for a short period though and asked me not to do so again, or to let them know if I ever had to or wanted to work outside of work hours.

A good mix of days in the office, at home, and on site. Everyone is very friendly and enjoy working together

My team consists of a senior finance manager for Statutory Reporting and Analysis, a finance manager for Reporting and Transactions, two senior financial accountants, a graduate (myself) and an intern. As a team, we discuss our upcoming schedule and any issues we are having weekly. We share how our weekends were to learn more about each other outside of work. The Finance department also has a social committee that organises events after hours, such as movie nights. The 2023 graduates also organise social events on most Fridays after work to build our connections and learn more about each other.

The culture around the office is very good. People are open for conversation, managers are generally quite accessible, most people work well as part of a team. Perhaps the after work events and activities could be improved.
