Training & Personal Development at Stockland

8.0
8.0 rating for Training, based on 43 reviews
Please describe the training programmes at your company and tell us what skills you've picked up.
A lot of the skills that I have learned is from on-the-job training. I came in the teams with close to 0 knowledge of anything we used to do, and quite recently one of our internal stakeholders commented on my scripting skills asking if where I learned to do it, to which, I answered "in my job". The team and managers are very deliberate about what projects you get to work on so you can develop the relevant skills. Our managers organise 1:1 catchups to discuss our development plans and set goals to achieve them. We have had great sessions from the grad team for training our soft skills. I am a member of Stockland Toastmasters, where I am practicing my public speaking skills. There is a great deal of resources available for employees for both technical and non-technical skills, like PluralSight, LinkedIn Learning, our own Leadership Hub, and mentoring opportunities. We are assigned a career coach who also helps with our development journeys and brings all these pieces together. I have found that my career coach has been a very powerful resource in my development.

Formal training could be improved. Informal training is what you make it - the opportunities you create for yourself and how you leverage your rotations to make the most of the grad program.

The on-the-job training was extensive and highly effective.

More structure could be beneficial in terms of monitored outcomes from the grad program, however lots of opportunities for training (LinkedIn learning etc.)
Graduate, Brisbane - 06 Aug 2024
The training process for graduate was smooth but typically generalised, so was difficult to be trained in our specialised fields.

Training has been great. Set of online modules to start and then assisted site visits for items to look out for. We also had a trip up to Sydney with the other graduates to learn about the company as a whole.

PCA Courses - Finance Essentials, Development

Although there are many optional training available in addition to compulsory training, there doesn't ever seem to be enough time in the day to get to it. Especially when you need to prioritise your usually responsibilities within the role.

wide variety of training development is non existent though

The grad program has provided a variety of training and development opportunities. Through events such as the grad conference, and additional development training sessions, to hands-on work through my rotations, I am able to develop both my professional and technical skills everyday. Working in a big corporate like Stockland also means that I am also able to develop my commercial acumen by working with internal and external stakeholders.

Training is a bit monotonous - all online.

The company 's training is ok. More could be done to provide updates and information on what other teams/BUs are working on. Also lunch-learn type sessions are a good opportunity for this, but they are not run too regularly. I have developed many skills while working in the team, with the biggest being soft skills that enable you to contribute better to a team environment, such as delegation, collaboration/teamwork and planning.

Training opportunities are available online at any time, some are instructor led and easy to book into such as first aid, skill development and writing courses.

There are multiple opportunities and resources. Our hub for learning is on SAP success factors. But we have access to LinkedIn and Plural Sight. I use LinkedIn for more soft-skills lessons and Plural Sight for technical skills (I'm learning AWS Solutions Architect Associate at the moment). People here are always willing to teach you things as well. I learned how to raise POs for example using SAP.

We used to have a 2 hour Learning workshop every month although that has been cancelled the last few times. Despite that, Stockland provides many systems which allow us to improve or skills, such as LinkedIn Learning.

There are online support materials to help with general processes for core business systems. I have mostly learnt on the job, from watching someone else perform the task first and then following.

we have dedicated training days throughout the year

mostly learning on the job (which I prefer) but informal training through grad program events and during self development time e.g. LinkedIn learning etc.

There are quite a lot of training and development programmes at the company. These include induction training, LinkedIn learning, webinars, in person lunch-and-learn training sessions, etc. On the job training for tasks is also done quite well, you are shown how to complete tasks and encouraged to innovate also.

There are lots of opportunities to learn and grow. The L&OD department recently overhauled the learning sector of Stockland, so a great time to grow.
