Training & Personal Development at Ventia

7.2
7.2 rating for Training, based on 34 reviews
Please describe the training programmes at your company and tell us what skills you've picked up.
As a graduate, I've had access to a range of formal training sessions that cover important skills and knowledge to help me grow as an individual. This includes workshops on industry-specific topics, cyber security tools/applications, and management techniques. The company also encourages informal learning through mentorship. I receive guidance and feedback from more experienced colleagues especially managers, which has helped me develop skills such as effective communication, problem-solving, and teamwork. Overall, the combination of formal training and practical experience has greatly contributed to my professional growth.

The company's Graduate programs and development initiatives have provided a broad overview but have been relatively generic and not highly impactful for my specific career goals. While the formal training has been less tailored, on-the-job experiences and informal learning opportunities have been more valuable. Through daily tasks and projects, I’ve developed key skills such as effective problem-solving, project management, and cross-departmental collaboration.

There is no consistency with training from graduate to graduate. Managers are not held accountable for not utlising graduates. The only consistent training we get is the workshops and lunch and learns held by the programme as they are for everyone, but generally focus on soft skills. I have picked up skills in project management, and my latest rotation i have been lucky enough to be put in the earthing and bonding skills so have been reading on the job about it.

We've had 2 lots of training regarding how to deal with stress and anxiety and the other how to present a powerpoint.

The training is chill, there are a few online modules that you have to complete - but it depends on what part of the business you are in. In the branding team there was only a few but with SHEQ there was more.
Graduate, Sydney - 02 Sep 2024
Lots of training, revolving around networking, leadership and career mapping
Graduate, Sydney - 02 Sep 2024
Informally there are lots of opportunities and encouragement for mentoring. Formally, the graduate program kicks off with a training workshop, with another training workshop held in July each year for graduates. These have both been positive experiences and well run - externals are brought in to conduct training.

Development workshops are run at the beginning and in the middle of the year, with a focus on things like goal setting, time management, networking, and presentation skills.

I think the program itself doesn't really quite train you as much. Depending on the team you're doing the rotation with, everyone will be exposed to different things that they'll be train on. However, this would be mostly done with the team you're working with rather than the program itself. The program is improving itself and trying to also get everyone exposed to different things and also to give the same exposure to everyone on important topics that would help us throughout our time.

No training given, only assigned inductions

I have done many training and development programs at Ventia. I don't know if I have gained any skills from any of them to be honest. I did a hiring manager's training which was very good, but It was basically a summary of my degree (HR). We had lots to do over the onboarding time.
Graduate, Perth - 13 Aug 2024
Training courses are available but require manager's approval and also require searching.
Graduate, Sydney - 04 Dec 2023
They come from time to time and flexible in nature, which helps to maintain work and training balance.

There are not many opportunities for formal training for an engineer but good informal training if it relates to work.

So far I haven't been here long enough to join any formal learning programs, but I have been working alongside my team on the launch of an upcoming learning program and look forward to being a part of that

As part of the grad program, there is plenty of useful training that targets different skills (e.g. software such as excel or soft skills such as presenting)
Graduate, Sydney - 30 Mar 2023
For my program there are training sessions for software that is used. Most of my training has been informal where co-workers show me how to do specific tasks.
