Our history in Australia dates back over 20 years. Today we’re a national energy retailer with an ongoing commitment to make energy more affordable.
Our history of making energy more affordable in Australia goes back to the 1990s, when we started supplying gas to households in Western Australia and the ‘Alinta’ brand was born as AlintaGas.
In 1998 the Western Australian Government privatised AlintaGas. Since then, we’ve grown to become the largest privately-owned energy company in WA. From supplying major mining customers in the Pilbara, to operating power stations south of Perth, we’re committed to investing in WA.
We’re now growing rapidly on the east coast of Australia.
Alinta Energy is Australia’s fastest growing retailer on the east coast with over 600,000 households and business customers in New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Queensland choosing us to supply their energy needs.
This momentum has continued and we’re now proud to serve over one million customers throughout the country, with a team of over 800 people.
As our business has grown, so has our energy generating capacity. We operate power stations across Australia, including the Braemar Power Station in Queensland, the Wagerup Power Station in Western Australia – as well as the Glenbrook Power Station in New Zealand.
In January 2018, our owners acquired the Loy Yang B Power Station in Victoria. Employing hundreds of local people in the Latrobe Valley, Loy Yang B is one of the newest and most efficient power stations in Victoria, supplying energy for around 1.5 million homes.
To us, sustainability means more than simply energy from renewable sources. It’s also about affordability. That’s why we’re building Western Australia’s biggest wind farm, Yandin. It’s a high-quality project that will provide renewable energy at an affordable price for our customers.
At the same time, we’re investing in innovative projects such as the largest battery storage facility in Australia, which went online in 2018.
Affordable sustainability is the challenge we’ve set ourselves as we embark on our next phase of growth. It’s a challenge that inspires us every day.
At Alinta Energy, we are united around our sense of purpose to make energy more affordable for our customers. Our people are our greatest asset. We are committed to a culture where how we deliver is as critical as what we deliver.
We are a business focused on the customer, providing great service externally and internally. Our goal is to be the customer’s first choice. We are one team that works together for the same purpose.
We act like business owners, committed to industry leadership and the achievement of superior results.
We value diversity and treat people with respect. We are true to our word and take personal responsibility for our actions. Safety will always be our highest priority and comes first when making choices in our business.

Several external and internal factors impact the selection process, and the manager must take them into account in making selection decisions.
Typically selection process consists of the following steps but it is not necessary that all these steps depending on the requirement of the organization some steps can be skipped while performing the selection process.

To us, sustainability is about delivering lower emissions energy that’s also reliable and affordable. Our balanced approach considers social, environmental and economic factors. Despite the impacts of COVID-19, we are committed to our 2025 target of 1,500MW of owned and contracted renewable energy generation. We are well on our way to achieving this goal – fuelled by intelligent, high quality and environmentally friendly projects.
Our 35MW Battery Storage Project located at our Newman gas-fired power station in the Pilbara supplies consistent power to iron ore mining operations. It is the largest battery in Western Australia to be developed for a specific industrial application and links in with the Chichester Solar Gas Hybrid Project through a as a 60km transmission.
On January 31, 2020 the Federal Circuit Court dismissed Alinta's petition and ordered the energy firm to pay the Whites' costs of $6824.80. Other issues with customers included switching them to new energy contracts without their consent, which cost the company a $280,000 fine from the ESC last year.
