Do you want to make a difference?

Alluvium started with three people in 2006 who wanted to make a positive impact on our environment and the communities that rely on healthy ecosystems. Since then we have delivered thousands of projects, each of which have left the world in a slightly better place.

We haven’t achieved this alone. Since our inception we have gathered a team of over 160 like-minded experts who are all driven by the same passion to care for the natural world, and guide the developed world in a way that the two can coexist.

Through this journey we have consciously pursued a path that would be flexible on delivering work through different streams through the development of separate companies, each specialising in their own field of environmental science under the Alluvium Group, and sharing the same mission statement.

We are making a difference. Are you ready to join us?

Why us?

We recruit the most talented engineers, scientists, and economists to help us shape the future of our natural and urban environment. Our goal is to lift the bar within our industry and provide inspirational leadership on environmental issues and solutions.

We have achieved this through a purposeful diversification of services through our family of companies consisting of Alluvium, providing guidance and advice n environmental water from catchment to coast, expert economic and policy advice with Natural Capital Economics, guidance to better our communities through social sciences with Mosaic Insights, and critical ecological assessments and studies with EcoFutures.

Each of our businesses has its own governance and management arrangements while operating within the Alluvium Group ecosystem, allowing us to deliver work in a range of disciplines and to cross-pollinate ideas between our different teams.

Our values as a business align with our team members. We are a certified BCorp, operate as a carbon-neutral business and are actively committed to reconciliation through our Reconciliation Action Plan and other initiatives. We are an employee-owned business and offer profit sharing and stock purchases to employees.

We offer our teams flexible working conditions, opportunities for self-development and community work, and the chance to learn alongside experts in a variety of natural science fields. We value and trust our team members, and operate in a flat organisational structure to allow the free flow of ideas from youngest graduate to the more experienced manager. Everyone has something to contribute, and we foster creativity and thinking beyond conevtnetioal solutions.

Our actions are reflected in our results. Alluvium has a high staff retention rate and has been a regular feature on Great Place to Work, most recently in 2022 and 2023.

What Graduates Say About Them
  • The work we do is diverse, interesting, fulfilling, challenging, and values-aligned.
  • Great team and healthy work culture.
  • People are friendly, and most people are happy to talk and provide technical or situational guidance.
  • Relocation allowance. We have a three-year rotating program including a company conference, overseas study tour, and leadership development course.
  • Alluvium is highly committed to sustainability. They are a BCorp company, and consider issues such as their involvement in work that relates to certain aspects of the mining sector with a high degree of deliberation.
  • I put a large amount of pressure on myself to deliver high-quality work efficiently. This can at times result in me feeling acutely stressed and potentially working long hours.
  • Sometimes as a junior person, you don't get to work throughout in a project — your contribution will be in a few project stages.
  • It is difficult to find the expectations, knowledge, and resources you need to complete your work and operate effectively in the systems and processes at the company.
  • It is not always clear what it takes to move up the ranks or be promoted.
  • A better onboarding process and support for graduates.

Graduate Success Stories

  • Graduate stories
Sit down and seriously consider what kind of work would make you engaged, interested, and satisfied if you had to do it every day. Think about the kinds of people you want to be surrounded by. Do they have the same core values as you? Deep down, do they care about the big-picture stuff in a similar or complementary way to you? This is so important!

Don’t put too much pressure on yourself to know what you want to do once you finish university. Take time to travel – reflect, reset, and experience new things. I believe if you are passionate about sustainability and the environment the best thing to do is to enroll in an environment-related university degree.

We have our fortnightly team meeting for Alluvium’s Melbourne office. We discuss ‘people news’, which includes welcoming any new starters, birthdays, etc. We also receive an update on ‘office news’ such as preparations for our upcoming office move, and an update on how the company is tracking financially for the quarter.

As a team, we like to take 5 minutes to stand up and move around. This can include anything from a light stretch to a push-up challenge … whatever you feel like doing, fitting in 5 minutes is a great way to take a break from the screen and get the blood flowing.
