Career Prospects at AngloGold Ashanti Australia

People are always encouraged and given a chance to learn/have a crack at things the next level up.

Promotion is possible however career progression to move elsewhere could be difficult as skills you learn are not that diverse

I'm struggling to really get clarity on underground time and vent time so it's pretty murky as to how there would be any sort of career development at Anglogold. You need underground time, ventilation/mine planning time and various other skills.

I don't think there are many opportunities to progress

At the moment I am not very confident with my career progression.

It is very early in my graduate program to make a proper assessment, however, viewing other recent graduates' experiences, I'd say it has been a mixed bag. A couple metallurgy graduates have left or almost left after completing their grad programs due to the promotion after the program being insufficient (E.g. being given title Metallurgist vs Production Metallurgist). Alternatively, I have seen a couple graduates exits the program early to gain a promotion early. However, the ability to climb the ranks seems to be dependent on the vacancies that open up in the company. From an external viewpoint, it appears SunnyD seems to be more willing to hire/promote internally with the graduates, and Tropicana has tended to look externally.

Flat structure and people stay in the more senior roles for a long time.

After completing the requirements of the Graduate position, there is the potential to move into either a plant or project Metallurgist role, with future progression as a Senior Metallurgist, Superintendent and Manager available long term.
