I was lucky enough to get the graduate program through my summer vacation program. I liked the person-to-person interview.

I believe hiring process is fair.

Given I was previously a vacation student, the pathway to the graduate program was mainly straightforward and treated as more of a transition. I still underwent all of the cognitive assessments and interviews, however, it felt as though the interviews were more of a conversion. I actually prefer this style of interview, as I felt more relaxed rather than interrogated.

They have changed it since I went through the process as a vacation student. At the time it was very slow, but it is much better now.

I had an interview with the Alt UG manager for vacation student work, I got the role and was offered a graduate when I finished my studies.

The interview process was incredibly smooth - the team explained the career pathway, the work life balance, and career progression.

An online application followed by in-person interview, then medical and police checks

Why I wanted to be a geologist, what I had done, experience I had that would assist, my understanding of the company and some geological questions.

Standard interview questions, I cannot recall now.

Stretching the memory, but - > Questions about working styles (weaknesses / strengths) > Questions regarding past work / university projects > Teamwork / problem solving skills.

What is one thing that you struggle with? Can you tell us about a time you worked in a team and had to deal with conflict?

A few technical questions, but most were around attitude, goal/ambitions and seeing if I would fit with the company culture and values

Think about why you want this position and what you want to get from it as a geologist.

Typical graduate engineering questions and personality based questions. Nothing to be surprised about.

Be the best person you can be and tell the truth, for the truth will set you free.

Understand your previous working history and experiences.

I liked that the interviews focused on how you work / your work ethic, rather than the knowledge you have. In a graduate role, I think being willing and able to learn is more important than the grades you got throughout university. Advice: Although your university grades are important in getting noticed by prospective employers, ultimately, it is your work ethic and attitude that will help you secure a role.

The interviews are fairly relaxed, just be yourself and try think of examples outside of university

Have some prepared examples of your work/university experience where you have demonstrated safety, leadership and handled tough situations. Present yourself in a way where it truly shows you are eager to learn and progressively develop yourself. Practice does get you a little better each time.

Be yourself and let your enthusiasm for the role show. Be honest, open and willing to learn
