Working Hours at Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS)

8.9
8.9 rating for Working Hours, based on 75 reviews
How flexible is your company when it comes to hours?
ABS is very flexible with WFH. While 2 days per week is recommended, I have not seen anyone having issues with doing less.

Very flexible, and you can work from home.
Graduate, Sydney - 15 Aug 2024
The ABS is really flexible around working hours, some areas will have more need to more office hours and others a very flexible. Mostly though there's a really nice balance where you're able to work on different things depending on where you're working

Very flexible.

I am required to work 4 days a fortnight in the office. I prefer to start and finish early (around 8am-4pm) My company is very flexible with which days this can be and with which hours I choose to work.
Graduate, Brisbane - 30 Jul 2024
I work from home most of the time because a trip into the office is nearly 2 hours each way from where I live.
Graduate, Melbourne - 30 Jul 2024
Extremely flexible. Every manager I have worked for with this organisation has been the same. Very understanding that people have lives outside of work, and sometimes that needs to take a higher priority but I am trusted to get me work done and make up any hours that I miss.

Company is very flexible - often too flexible which hurts productivity

4 days WFH, 1 day in office. Extremely flexible company. No issues if I chose not to come in due to a cold or appt.
Completed Grad Program, Melbourne - 23 Jul 2024
Work is extremely flexible with hours. I can work almost whenever I want and flex time benefits me the days I can do more when other days I do less.
APS5 for 1 year, Melbourne - 23 Jul 2024
Very flexible based on needs, with certain employees working nearly always from home. Most employees are encouraged to come to the office 2 times a week.
Graduate, Perth - 22 Jul 2024
Very flexible - the ABS uses Flextime recording and basically everyone has formal teleworking arrangements. I usually work 3 days a week in the office, which works great for me and suits my team.
Graduate, Melbourne - 22 Jul 2024
Very flexible with flextime system. Great approach to wfh with a policy that has been in place since before covid. Healthy work-life balance.
Graduate, Perth - 22 Jul 2024
Work hours are very flexible, though I understand this can vary among managers and teams. The focus is generally to make sure the work is done, as opposed to the hours being met (though they always are!).
APS5, Sydney - 22 Jul 2024
I try to be consistent and start at 8am every day. Sometimes I have to work longer than the 7 1/2 hours but this is accrued as flex time.
APS5, Geelong - 22 Jul 2024
My company is quite flexible and utilise flex time, makes my everyday life so much easier.
Graduate, Melbourne - 22 Jul 2024
I'm unsure as I haven't had to change my work hours too much. Flextime makes small changes in day to day hours very easy as I can sign off a little early or sign on a little late if required and make it up elsewhere.
