Training & Personal Development at Australian Taxation Office (ATO)

8.3
8.3 rating for Training, based on 51 reviews
Please describe the training programmes at your company and tell us what skills you've picked up.
The ATO has several programs including the Graduate Program - the training is quite intensive, especially in induction. The training would be best delivered face to face, and potentially shortened. On the job training is best and the candidates enjoy this most based on feedback.
APS6 Career Development Manager, Adelaide - 21 Aug 2024
I work in a fast-paced environment with lots of decision making. Training is largely informal and developed over time. The support is great and easily accessible.
Graduate, Adelaide - 21 Aug 2024
in the graduate program, we received weekly L&D training which consisted of webinars and in person tutorials learning about different topics related to our stream. We also received on the job training in our rotation areas which helped me to develop my skills including both soft and technical skills.
Started as a graduate in 2022, now working as a Career Development Manager, Melbourne - 21 Aug 2024
During the grad program, we have well designed training program for each of the 3 Units as well as trainings to support with our rotation work. The trainers are very knowledgeable and always willing to support us. Our career development manager helps us to stay on track with developing skills and capabilities that are appropriate to our career goal and skill level, these includes general skills such as digital literacy, communication and collaboration etc, as well as rotation specific skills such as law interpretation, legal writing, investigation and case management.

There are a number of streams, I am in a stream where we are expected to pass assessments which are linked to the training that we received. It has been as amazing in the ATO, they deliver all training online, perfectly delivered and articulated.

APS 6, Brisbane - 04 Jul 2024
As a Graduate, we had a 1-year long internally developed program that gave formal training on tax technical areas, as well as a few non-technical areas (emotional well-being, etc). This program can be divided into 4 units, each of which had included an assessment task. Unit 1 was an intensive 2-week training on the basic tax technical areas with a short-answer quiz. Units 2 and 3 included training on a 1-day a week basis on tax technical areas, for which individual assessment tasks were issued. Unit 4 was a Group project, where Graduates in groups of 5-7 were given a topic to research and present on. Alongside the formal training, the program also placed Graduates in Rotational areas to give exposure to different areas of the ATO.
