  • Engineering Consulting

Applications for the Beca Summer Internships are closed for 2024, but keep reading to learn more.

Each year we employ up to 150 summer interns across Australia and New Zealand who work full-time in a Beca office. We have a huge range of graduates joining us from engineering, planning, science and digital backgrounds, to name a few.

When do applications open?
Applications for the 2024/2025 programme are now closed.

How long is the internship?
Our summer students usually start work in November after exams are finished. The intern programme is eight weeks long with two weeks off over Christmas and New Year's, so you'll finish up in mid-February.

What will I do as a Beca intern?
You will work alongside other interns on a summer intern project – a real business problem facing our industry.

Will I get paid?
Yes! Your hourly rate will depend on your experience, year of study and any extra qualifications. But don't worry - it's a competitive rate in the market!

What kinds of interns does Beca take?
That depends on the needs across our business each year. In the past we’ve taken a mixture of engineering students with an interest in civil, electrical, geotechnical, geology, software, mechanical, structural, transportation. Some years we also take survey, GIS, planning, HR, quantity surveying and project management students. We'll share the locations and positions on our website when applications open - follow our Grad Facebook and Instagram for updates!

Why should I choose Beca for work experience?
We’ve got over 1,500 technical gurus, so you'll have the opportunity to work alongside some of the best in the industry. You will gain invaluable consulting experience from our multidisciplinary support network. Plus, you will get exposure to a huge range of markets, from water, defence, education, healthcare, transportation and infrastructure, to food and beverage and power – helping you decide what interests you!

Recruitment Process

How does the grad & intern application process work?

Applications open. Applications for our Grad & Intern programmes are now closed.  Applications for our 2026 graduate roles will open in March 2025.

Apply online. You’ll need to upload your cover letter, CV and academic transcript (we know this won't be your official one, so just send us where you are at so far).

Applications close. If you have missed the deadline or your application isn't successful, we encourage you to keep in touch.

Applicant screening begins. Once applications have closed, all applications will be reviewed and then shortlisted by our team. If we’re progressing with your application, we’ll invite you to a face to face interview with our team. If your application isn’t successful, we will be sure to let you know via email.

Interviews. This is where it gets exciting! We want to know more about you, what you like to do outside of university and why you want to join Beca over your summer break.

Employment offers. We'll contact you as soon as a decision has been made. If you're offered a job, we will complete a reference check and then send your formal offer online through your candidate profile. A background check will be completed, prior to you starting with us.

Onboarding. We're looking forward to welcoming you to Beca! Most of our Interns commence in mid November where you will be welcomed into our Intern Development Programme. A support person (buddy) will be there to support you to ensure you’ll feel part of the team from day one.

What Graduates Say About Them
  • Flexibility and work culture.
  • Beca is recognizing that as graduates, we may not possess extensive knowledge yet and have much to learn in our field. They are highly supportive of our development.
  • Beca is a wonderfully diverse company with a fantastic culture. People at Beca are friendly and always willing to teach graduates.
  • There is a guideline to show which level you stand and what it takes to go up to the next level.
  • The total working hours are 40 per week, and they are flexible. I can start early and finish early, or work more on one day and less on another.
  • I am not spending enough time on projects at this stage.
  • The current office we are in is outdated, however, when we move to the new office I believe the amenities will be better.
  • Inconvenience getting to the office.
  • More connections with other grads.
  • Due to the expansion of the company, there can be periods of downtime where there isn't enough work to keep everyone fully occupied.

As a structural engineer I get to work on a range of tasks which is great as it keeps it interesting. This ranges from Structural design (making sure things don’t fall over!) to monitoring the construction of projects.
