The BEST part of my job is that I get to act as a sounding board for (really) experienced people and offer my thoughts on their ideas, plans, and dreams, whilst also contributing my own.
While it is necessary to have a foundational knowledge of Process or Chemical Engineering to do my IROC role, most of the day-to-day skills I have used in all my roles are soft skills of organisation, communication, management, and collaboration.
I love the work environment of the mine, being able to come together with the teams I work with to solve problems and find opportunities, and of course, seeing the problem solved or the opportunity realised.
The coolest thing about my job is getting to work with many stakeholders across such a span of the mine lifecycle. We are involved in exploration planning, long and short-term mine planning, operations, hazard management and mine closure.
I enjoy getting to know people, learning from them and helping the team to achieve their goals. Providing a fresh set of eyes and asking new questions is highly rewarding, especially where you can directly implement a change that makes a difference.
