CareerTrackers is a national non-profit that works with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students from senior high school and throughout the university to create professional career pathways.
We give guidance and mentorship to our students, set them up for success with world-class learning and development, and create internship opportunities in the winter and summer holidays year on year while they study.
CareerTrackers is the largest community in Australia of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and professionals.
Successful participation in CareerTrackers is defined by graduating from university, excelling in multi-year internships and contributing to the CareerTrackers community.
CareerTrackers is a student-driven model. We start by meeting students and understanding what they are studying and why and the industries that they are interested in. Our Advisors then guide each student through the pre-employment training process. This includes - mapping out a career path, researching companies and industries, developing a CV, creating a match to an employment partner and preparing for an interview.
CareerTrackers employment partners share our vision to build the future leaders of Australia and see CareerTrackers interns as a source of talent. Our employers see the value in creating opportunities where the interns can make a meaningful contribution while gaining valuable experience aligned to their career aspirations.
Once a student has been matched to an employment partner, their CV is put forward and an interview is arranged. It's important that our students earn their internship, are a good fit for the organisation and can genuinely add to the success of their team at work.
If the student is successful at the interview, the company makes the student an offer of employment, they become an employee of the company and we then start to work with that manager to structure the internship.
The support from CareerTrackers and the Advisor is ongoing during the internship as well as the university year.
We create a long-term and sustainable pathway from high school, to university, onto professional employment for our participants.
