Policy Futures Graduate Program (Queensland Government) Graduate Stories
Graduate stories
The program has provided me with immeasurable professional experience in such a short time, countless connections across so much of Queensland’s public sector and a holistic training program from a range of providers. The foundations I have received from the program have provided me with the confidence to embark on what I hope will be a fulfilling and long-term career in the public sector.
The program really set me up straight out of uni and made my transition out of uni and into the workforce seamless. Since commencing in the program, it has been amazing in shaping my career direction with the Queensland Government.
Entering the program without prior office experience, I was initially apprehensive. I had the all-dreaded ‘Imposter Syndrome’. However, the supportive atmosphere quickly dispelled my fears and I felt welcomed, recognised and valued.
I am currently on rotation in the Office for Women and Violence Prevention where I support my team to respond to the Women’s Safety and Justice Taskforce reports.
The Policy Futures team has been fantastic in facilitating my career direction and placed me with teams where I get to work on the type of policy that makes a lasting difference to those facing disadvantage.
It was a real career change for me, from an experienced academic to a novice public servant, but I have learned so much and enjoyed both rotations immensely so far.
