Diversity at Essential Energy

8.4
8.4 rating for Diversity, based on 15 reviews
Please provide further information on diversity with respect to women, ethnic minorities and LGBT. Please comment on issues such as recruitment, retention, promotion, child care, maternity leave, etc.
We signed a panel pledge, every panel we're involved in has to have equal representation. We have a Inclusion and Diversity group which brings to light groups such as LGBTIQA+, multicultural background, Aboriginal and Torres Straight Islander, gender etc. We celebrate our women in the field as they recently had a conference, a female identifying cyber grad role to encourage people to apply, paid maternity/paternity leave with guarantee that your position is there upon your return. The company itself is quite multicultural we frequently work with people coming from diverse ethnic backgrounds.

Women - there are lots of women employed and in management positions at EE but this is often reflective of the role type. I can only comment on what I see on the office role side of things. I have been in meetings where I was the only women but I see that this will hopefully change in future.

I think that the company respects and strives towards diversity but in the day-to-day interactions I don't see a lot of it in the workplace yet.

My CIO offered me parental paternity leave even though I couldn't access it until after 12 months but I needed it as I had a newborn born 3 months into my job. This was a 10/10 for me as I knew going into my new job I wouldn't be able to access it until after 12 months which was something I knew. I'll be forever thankful towards my CIO Sarah!!!!!!! I also got a baby package from eTech for our newborn child.

While the company culture promotes respect and acceptance in diversity, there is still a large gender gap in the current pool of graduates and within the engineering teams.
