GroupM was formed in 2003 by WPP Group to serve as the parent company of WPP's media agencies, including Mindshare, MediaCom, Wavemaker, Essence Global, and m/SIX, as well as specialty businesses Xaxis, Finecast, Motion Content Group, and Kinetic. Regional businesses include Greenhouse Group, QUISMA, Outrider, Catalyst, Neo, Quasar, Movent, Volcanic, and Plista.
Essence Global’s CEO, Christian Juhl, takes over from Kelly Clark as GroupM CEO from 1 October 2019.
In March 2020, GroupM acquired Sandtable, a UK-based behavioural analytics firm and becomes the first media agency group to purposefully invest in Agent-Based Modeling.
