8.6 rating for Training, based on 36 reviews
Please describe the training programmes at your company and tell us what skills you've picked up.
Both team support and formal training are the best in the industry. I can't expect any more from training in this company.

Training programs were built by many experts in the company. It includes online, in person training in different locations, countries.... I picked up a lot of skills that none were taught in university. New knowledge about the industry, new communication skill, and most importantly a safety mindset.

We sent people abroad to our learning centre. We spend money to train all our new comers.

We all have to do the NEST training when first starting with SLB. From there its ongoing training through modules that are allocated to us. We also have Degreed which give you access to any time of training you can do for free and online to complete at your own time.

Our company offers a comprehensive range of training and development programs, including formal workshops, online courses, and on-the-job training. Formal training covers industry-specific skills, leadership development, and technical expertise, while informal training involves mentorship, peer learning, and hands-on project experience. Working here, I’ve acquired a range of valuable skills, such as advanced problem-solving techniques, project management, effective communication, and technical proficiency in our industry’s tools and technologies.

During my interview I was informed that we are going to receive a proper training, and this was one of the motivations to join the company. They sent me to school, 2 months in Tulsa US. It was a lot of technical information in extremely short period of time. Example: One topic, 65 slides in 2 days, exam and then change the topic. Next day 40 slides more, exam, change the topic. During practical training the instructor said, "I can't teach you how to use a software, you need to learn by yourself" (he didn't know how to teach). The philosophy behind is "teaching you how to self-learn", I got this, but I don't believe this approach is valid for the beginners, very technical information, especially knowing that you are contracting people from different background, not related to Oil and Gas background. The analogy that I like to use is: "school teaches us how to build a car in two days and when you go to the rig, they give you the key and say... drive!" "5 years of University content in just 2 months at school". I don't call this a "proper training". In my case, I worked as third hand for less than one week, I was forced to work by myself with no senior supervision ... It means no proper on job training after more than 3000 slides that was thrown on us at school and no proper training on the rig related to the work process in general. The field crew don't want to, and they should not work in their days off. So could be awesome if we could do our training during working time and not during our days off. For example, 2 weeks on the field and 1 week working at the workshop or online training instead of 3 weeks on the field and 1 week have to work at the workshop and be sent to the field again with no proper time off. When we work on the field, we work up to 20 days straight with no time off, 12 hours per day. When we come back home, we should not have to do work related activities, we should rest properly, do personal activities. The company culture behind training and self-learn goes completely against fatigue management, mental health, life balance that it is in the company values, standards and procedure. The psychological bulling occurs when your superior say "In my time, when I want to learn, I used my days off to go to the workshop and ask the guys to explain to me". This comment makes the employee feel awful for not doing the same. This is not right, and in my opinion, he was wrong for doing that in his time. Doing this in his time just led the company culture about the training in the wrong pathway. As a FiFo worker and with this unhealth culture that we need to use our days off to self-learn because the failure training system during school, leave me with not time to do personal learning, I can't enroll for any course outside SLB because we don't have fix schedule. And this led me to have a second thoughts about the company.

The training and development programs from the are great. Every day I am learning new things by doing courses online. Most important skills I have learnt from the company is applying safety behavior at work as well as problem solving skills, leadership skills and team work.

The training is top tier with clear and concise goals that you are tasked to achieve and the ability for everyone to go one step further. The training is the best in the world with some real pathways to what you specifically want to achieve that will constantly adapt to your requests and adjustments of life.

The company provides enough training before the job, also provides enough preparation and support before the formal training. Trainees can learn the whole work process of drilling and get some skills about different tools, and get practice before the formal job training.

Big focus on formal training which is great for skill development. Online courses are sometimes a "tick and flick", most learning needs to happen from experience and guidance from more senior employees. On the job training is brief. Employees wanting more support or information need to be proactive and push for it.

Very good training program

Training School is very good. Pre and Post school training could be better - its sometimes hard to learn at the base etc as a trainee

Formal training at the Middle Eastern Learning Centre was excellent. Classes were extensive and is great to share this experience with other like-minded people joining the company. On the job experience however, greatly varies.

My first training was in Abu Dhabi (2 months), it was really tough. My second training was online (2 weeks). We always have trainings to improve, learn more and achieve more promotions.

Formal training was personally redundant for the majority of the time. This is because I already had a background in the industry so most of it I already understood. I think the formal training was comprehensive. I have learnt a lot on the job, informally. I appreciate the willingness of staff on location to help and teach
