Please tell us about promotion possibilities and fill us in on what it takes to move up the ranks.
My organisation does secondments which means I can apply to fill a higher role for a set amount of time. I'm really excited for the opportunity this poses to gain experience in higher management roles to support future applications but also to give me the opportunity to explore if that kind of role is a good fit for me. I have spoken to a lot of past graduates who are now filling very high positions in the organisation

Because there are so many roles within the Deparment, there is ALWAYS an opportunity to move around, do someone elses role for a while, move up the chain, or take on higher duties in your own role. Roles are often hired internally first, then advertised externally, so once youre in, you can move around alot.

The PDPs are a great way to show what you have achieved; not only to your managers/supervisors but to yourself.

I think that most promotions arise through the significant opportunities there are to move around within government and that is how people move up ranks predominantly - although I can see that there are opportunities for promotion via the PDP process and via slowly moving up in the area etc

Always avenues for secondments - provided you have the approval. Post the program, the world is your oyster.

The grad program is an excellent fast track to promotion with its emphasis on experience and training. I have met many previous grads in high level roles at the department. There is also the opportunity to take secondments in more senior roles which is a great way to gain experience for a few months before trying for the role ongoing

After the completion of the two year graduate program, I feel that promotion possibilities will be accessible. People move up the ranks based on merit, and especially based on people skills and ability to communicate. I feel that promotion opportunities are a little stunted within the two years of the program, however.

I have heard many stories of past graduates taking up better paying roles during their time in the graduate program. These are regularly roles that are a grade higher than what is offered at the completion of the graduate program.
