In 1975, Vanguard started its operations with a unique investor-owned structure. When founding the enterprise, John C. Bogle wanted to create a better way to manage a mutual fund company. The result was an investment company designed to make money for its investors, not from them.
Without external owners to satisfy, it can focus more on the investment needs of its clients. They have access to personalised high-quality investments, financial advice, relevant market insights, and retirement tools that help them build a future for those they love.
In 1996, Vanguard expanded internationally by opening its Australian office. Vanguard Investments Australia marked the company’s first foray outside the United States. Later, its global expansion also included Mexico, Canada, China, and several European countries.
In Australia, they partner with financial advisers, individual investors, and institutional clients to offer low-cost investment solutions. Vanguard continues to support long-term investment by creating low-cost and diversified portfolios, providing advice with Vanguard’s leading digital tools, as well as enhancing clients' financial literacy and staying up to date with the latest insights.
To ensure excellent services for their clients, the company employs a talented and diverse crew. A work environment that values diversity and inclusion can amplify their ability to collaborate, innovate and deliver a great client experience.
The company is also committed to providing a supportive environment where staff can feel connected and appreciated. This includes ensuring that they have the appropriate support for leaders to manage the team's well-being.
At Vanguard, they have several Employee Resource Groups (ERGs). These are voluntary, employee-led groups that contribute to personal development in the work environment and foster an inclusive and diverse workplace.
In addition, all roles in the department have options to work flexibly to support the staff in balancing their work and life priorities. This policy can create a more productive environment and staff can be more engaged with their work since they have no more work-life conflict.
Vanguard Australia has an 18-month rotational Graduate Program for candidates who have recently graduated or are on track to graduate this year. You can undertake 3 rotations across the business and encounter lots of opportunities to learn and grow.
There are different streams in the program, including Distribution, Finance, IT, Investment Management, Marketing, and Product. However, all Graduate positions will be based in Melbourne. Therefore, you need to be Melbourne-based or plan to relocate before the program starts in February each year. Also, the recruitment process consists of phone interviews and assessment centres in Melbourne.
To apply for the experienced positions, you need to create a profile, fill out an online application, and submit your resume to their Career page. You can apply anytime since all of the positions are open until filled, and the postings will only be removed from their site when someone has been hired.
You can choose to work in one of these areas: Client Services, Corporate Support, Data and Analytics, Financial Advisor and Investment Management, Sales and Marketing, and Technology.
They are committed to helping staff learn and grow, in every position and every department. Staff’s personal and professional development are supported through training programs, specialty development programs, and networking opportunities with leaders from various backgrounds and experiences. They ensure that along the way, staff have the tools they need to continue to succeed.
To support the crew members’ personal and family needs, they offer the following benefits:
To give back to the communities and expand their impact on the wider world, staff can enjoy one paid day off each year. They can donate their time and talent by organising and participating in projects, such as their hunger relief drives and Vanguard-sponsored Days of Service.
They also support and raise awareness about millions of people across the world living with HIV or AIDS. Their Out Professional Engagement Network (OPEN) raised funds for the Red Ribbon Appeal to help continue the work of preventing new HIV transmissions, supporting people living with HIV, and tackling HIV stigma.
