The Northrop Consulting Engineers story

Established in 1976, Northrop is a locally-owned engineering consultancy with nine offices and over 500 people across NSW, ACT, QLD and VIC. Highly experienced in Civil, Structural, Building Services, and Sustainability. We also have extensive expertise in emerging and niche engineering services including Acoustics, Remedial and Façade. We customise our service offerings to work standalone or come together as a successful multidisciplinary team. At Northrop, we believe that by developing our people to their full potential, building longstanding client relationships and through our determination to make every project a success, we help our clients realise their potential. The projects we undertake with you come in all sizes across a range of sectors including aged care, health, education, hospitality, land development, commercial, industrial and residential, and we have an exceptional track record of delivering high value, pragmatic and successful solutions.

Culture & vibe

At Northrop, our culture is something we're really proud of. We’re inclusive and we’re diverse. We want everyone who joins us to fulfil their potential, and we help, guide and sometimes push each other to achieve exactly that. We’ve got each other’s backs, and everyone is comfortable and happy being themselves. Northrop is a home for high performers, but there’s no pretence and little politics. We engage with each other and do great work together.
The business is owned by our senior people, who work among us and set the tone for our open and nurturing culture. Being employee-owned means we decide what is important, which markets to work in, who to work with, what opportunities to harness, and which risks to take. It’s all on us. When we succeed, we benefit – not some investor sitting on a beach. We’ve got skin in the game and we care deeply.

What Graduates Say About Them
  • Flexible working is highly respected in the company, giving everyone the opportunity to work wherever.
  • Great people, great management, variety of jobs, great training and mentors.
  • Supportive workplace culture, particularly the emphasis on developing young professionals.
  • The culture, the relationships, opportunities to meet clients and do things that you wouldn't be allowed to or be able to at other larger companies.
  • Lots of learning technical concepts. Being exposed to different kinds of projects.
  • Everyone is really busy so sometimes you do not get enough time with mentors, training or jobs.
  • Some ongoing changes/improvements to company processes means we have to learn the old system as well as ongoing learning of the new system. Not that bad, just extra steps learning the workflow.
  • Inefficiencies in the way we work on projects
  • Sometimes there is not as much structure around processes and tasks that we do day-to-day.
  • Tight deadlines during busy periods
